HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Can someone upload a 720 video in normal daylight indoors with some window lighting to Youtube or similar please? My play was at night so didn't get the full performance out of it I don't think. Just want to see how smoothly metering changes from indoor vs outdoor as the camera moves around!

Just go to YouTube . There are already shed loads up there. Yes it's poor at moving between light levels.

Yes there are lots but not the type I was looking for.

NM, I'll just get one off my mate some point this week.

Saves some time I guess ta :p

If you could set the metering to centred and then record a panning video in a standard room with window/blinds or whichever just so you can see how smoothly the metering changes between dark/light areas of the room.

Here's an example of the HTC Desire metering on Leedroid ROM:

Well I'm back at work today and I have now got the case that I purchased off ebay a couple of weeks ago (mentioned this a few pages back), unfortunately it's not as good as it's made out to be and it doesn't look genuine

The phone is a very tight fit to get into the case and the phone is near enough impossible to get out of the case! The screen cloths that come with it are next to useless as well and are probably not all that different to toilet paper! I haven't tried the actual screen protectors yet but I probably won't bother with them. Overall I'm very disappointed with the case but for £6 it's likely to be expected.

Edit - I've just discovered that the case I purchased is not meant to be compatiable with the DHD, despite the seller listing that it is and this same case (case is the S510 model) is also listed on Amazon as being compatiable with the DHD as well even though it really isn't. I've been looking at the S550 case which apparently is fully compatiable with the DHD but apart from this one, can anyone else recommend me a good case to get?

Thanks all - Liam

What are people using to do a full backup of their DHD ala iPhone? All messages etc? All my contacts are on my gmail account but I'd like a full restorable state of my phone. Does HTC Sync do this or is it better to look into root with Titanium backup etc?

Just ordered my HTC DHD with T-Mobile. Rang them just literally the second they had a batch of them come in :D. Bring on Wednesday!

Is anyone having problems with gallery images (and pics you have taken with the camera) taking a stupidly long time to load in the gallery viewer?

A tour of my kitchen it is then!

Not great as you can see.

Aha, ta, so it's pretty much the same as the Desire in terms of video recording.

I'd have imagined it to be on par with the SGS but I see not, the SGS is the closest quality to the iPhone 4 video recording I have seen and metering is 30fps smooth.

Here's an example I just took. (Vid kept failing to upload, only worked once I'd rebooted ).

Pretty poor imo, especially compared to the iPhone4. Considering the camera is fairly good, shouldn't this be improveable via software?

PS - don't know why you can't view it as 720p, I set the video to 720p. But this won't affect the metering much.

That's a bit smoother, the Desire has had a 30fps patch for smoother video but the quality still isn't any better, it's good for a phone with a camera but it's not on the same level as the Galaxy S or iPhone 4 which may as well be high quality cameras with phones :p

I am very tempted to see how much my desire sells and see if I can get a stock SGS cheap due to the impending release of the Nexus S but I have a feeling good things are due by Xmas with Gingerbread!

Here is another to compare the light sensor thingy.

At the end of the day, its a phone with a video camera on it, if i wanted any special function or ultra-high-res etc i will stick with a designated video-cam.

As it stands, it does exactly as it says on the tin, no complaints from me.

Battery life (again). I'm pretty happy with the battery life, but I've noticed that when I'm connected to my work's wifi the charge drops like a stone. The wifi signal at work is rated by the phone as 'excellent'. Doesn't happen at home. Any thoughts?

I'm tempted to invest in Tasker, and let it connect to wifi every half hour (synch and then disconnect) during work hours monday to friday.

Other than that I have no problems with battery life. The phone lasted the whole weekend on a single charge, with moderate use (1.5 hours of angry birds, 2 hours of browsing, and a few calls/texts). Would like to get to the bottom of this apparent drain at work though.

Ginga

The point is though that HTC's competitors, have proven that it could be a lot better.

What are we comparing, that when you go from electric light to daylight that a few fps are dropped whilst the sensor re-adjusts ?

There is a compromise with everything, in this case it may well be that a larger viewable screen means that you drop a few fps with 720 Video Recording, then i think i would prefer to keep my larger screen :D
