Well, on an impulse buy, I decided to get a Blu Ray player (Sony BDPS370B IIRC, not at home but I think that's the one, and no, I didn't want a PS3 :p). Also treated myself to a dozen Blu Ray discs.

All I can say is, WHY DID I NOT DO THIS EARLIER? Watched Predators last night and was gobsmacked at the picture quality! HD TV is nice enough but this is just awesome :D

Before I go mad and re-buy a load of my films on Blu-Ray, is this format here to stay or is there something else around the corner? I've held off on buying tonnes of stuff up until now as I was a bit dubious about how long this "fad" would last.

Blu-Ray will be around for quite a while (look at DVD).

If you can get a decent surround sound system it makes it even better ;)

Well there is always something around the corner but those things tend to be expensive when they get released..just like blu ray was when it first released ie the players.

But i would imagine just like DVDs they are here to stay for awhile yet....too many studios etc have pumped a lot of money into Blu ray and they dont want to see it die out just yet.

This player is awesome, it streams MKVs over a wireless network. Hint hint.

 A mate of mine said I should get this one - wi-fi ready, makes your toast in the morning etc etc. Must admit I'm a bit behind the times, having only recently got a 42" plasma (mostly due to the fact that I rarely watch TV).

Any pointers on how I can make the most out of this new toy are much appreciated!

Surround system is coming but not until I've finished renovating the house - sadly all toys will have to go into storage for a few weeks while some of the messier work is done. I can get cabling put in while the place is being done & replastered anyways :D

This...moved into our 1st home a few months ago, to celebrate bought a 50" tv, blu-ray, & 5.1 surround sound, my god what a difference it makes to the viewing experience!

Projector in the pipeline!!

I'd love an HD projector, but I got my plasma for uber-cheap (a guy up my road is a gadget freak and *has* to have the latest stuff so ends up selling kit on after a few months...)

Might be a consideration though in future ;)

There's a thread in this section about a relatively cheap Onkyo setup that's a positive bargain. Check it out. Early christmas present? Leave the page up when the wife says she wants on the PC. hint hint. :)
