now i know both builds have the sapphire hd 6870 and maybe further down the line i mite go crossfire but not 100% sure yet so not definite

now September next year i will be doing computering course at college and maybe go to unit and may have to do lots of work on the pc such as video editing software programming as well as graphic designing, now i think the phenom will get thje advantage here as it has 6 cores but i will be playing games as well such as

metro 2033
crysis
far cry 2
starcraft
bfbc2
cod mw2
etc...

i will be overclocking the cpu as well so maybe the phenom will be fast as well as having the 6 cores

btw i already have a hard drive/dice drive/psu

so please any advice and reccomendations on each build
cheers guys :D

Hiya beasty!

If you will be doing editing then the second one will be great due to the extra cores. The i5 is still a capable machine at editing though. Looking closer at the AMD build now.

Personally, I'd go with the i5 760, since it supports hyper-threading and also it's the latest CPU by intel.

No it doesn't. The only quad core CPUs that support HyperThreading are i7s. i3s and i5s are all either dual core with HyperThreading or quad core without HyperThreading.

hiya skyline! lol

the i5 dosent support hyperthreading but the only thing that puts me off the AMD build is the mobo choices :(

i really like the msi gd80 :D

I was thinking exactly the same thing just now beasty.

If i remember rightly the crossfire route on an am3 board means you need to look at boards with '790GX, FX and 890GX, FX chipsets are all crossfire capable' (stulid).

So that would be a restricting factor on which board you go for.
If its a single card only then I would be tempted by a AM3 x6 1055T system.

Otherwise I would go for the i5 760 and overclock it like a beast then maybe later add another card in.

As mentioned above you could maybe look at the i7 8** series but at that point i would then be tempted to push the budget for a "proper" i7 9** if possible.

see its really hard to choose :( lol

i want it to future proof as possible so i thought the 1055t would be a better choise

nope cant afford one of them there what £200 a chip at least lol
hmm i really dont know :( !!!!! HELP !!!! lol

which would i benifit from for gaming with both cpu's overclocked ??

If you used the stock Intel heatsink untill funds allow a performance cooler.

now that is really tempting :D

but arnt the i5 760 a better cpu for gaming ???

or will the i7 walk all over it ??

now for the gpu, i am not a ati or nvidia lover so i really dont know what card to get gtx460 or the 6870 ??

now the case i am really fussy over these as i demand a window haha lol (dont ask lol)

i know you can get a side window for the cm but its getting hold of one is a pain apparently :(

Yes the i5 760 is the better gaming CPU, just wanted to show that a i7 can be done for under £700 keeping that same gorgeous case.

a GTX470 gpu is a beast, but so is the 6870, but that price of the GTX470 is almost a "no-brainer".

omg you just dont understand how hard it is for me to choose lol

if i got the i5 build how much could i squeeze out of it with a h50 ??

4GHZ with a H50-1, thats about the coolers max thermal capacity.

+1

i7 is a good bet.

However, if you want it to last a long time I would wait until SB and AM3+ and see what that does with prices and performance - might be able to get a lot more bang-for-your-buck
