Playstation Phone

There has been talk about this for a while now, they are "supposed" to be incorporating psp tech into their line of sony ericsson phones but obviously just rumours.

I'm not quite sure why this is going to succeed where the Go failed. Its still DD only which the market just isn't ready for yet. .

The Go did not fail only because it was DD only.

I'm not quite sure why this is going to succeed where the Go failed. Its still DD only which the market just isn't ready for yet. Too many games are not available digitally, new games do not have to be released digitally as Sony have left it up to publishers to decide etc.

This is from someone who has and loves a PSP Go.

I have a PSP 3000 which barely gets any use, as I don't carry it anywhere with me. I would buy this phone in an instant though, providing there is nothing else seriously wrong with it, as it will be perfect to whack out on the bus/train/whatever for a quick gaming session. Unless I put my mind to it, I don't bring my PSP with me. My phone goes wherever I go.

No it also failed because of the price point. But bearing in mind Japan is the only really strong market for the PSP and they ignored it almost completely. People want to be able to play the games they already own on the format, sell used games, and have access to ALL the games available on that format.

Three things you can't do on the Go.

I can't see this coming to much as a gaming device tbh. The PSPGo was a complete fail due to popular games not being available for download. Making it a phone as well won't change that.

Wouldn't be "both sets of hardware", current top-shelf smartphones (SGS, iPhone 4, Desire HD) already have graphical power that surpasses that of the PSP. The reason you mostly just see 2D games on these things is that developers have to write their apps to work on slower phones as well.
And it seems like newer silicon will be even faster and MUCH more energy efficient too: http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/18/qualcomm-teases-28nm-dual-core-snapdragons-pixel-punching-adren/
So the only remaining obstacles to making a phone that can play games and have a decent-lasting battery are the screen (which is becoming less of a problem with AMOLED technologies, and Sony are bringing their own AMOLED fab online next year), and the obsession with making phones skinny and therefore only being able to fit tiny batteries in them, which hopefully won't be the case in a PSP phone as anyone dorky enough to buy one won't mind it not being thin enough to fit into their super-skinny jeans! :p

maybe you should check the desire thread. people from there seem to constantly praise its battery life. and less than 24h is pretty poor. is it up to date ?

Mine is up to date and I get awful battery life.

4 hours 14 minutes and i've lost 26 %. Thats with hardly any usage, few texts 5 minute call and no internet browsing.

If I use 2G only then yeah I do get better battery life, but I'm having problems when I try and turn it back to 3G. Quite often it wont go back, and I have to just wait for ages.

I will have to check the Oxygen Rom thread to see if its me

That is outrageous, my Desire HD (which has similar battery life, if not slightly worse) would have lost about 6% in that time with that use at the most.

Your phone could be faulty.

I've had it since release and I've never really got decent battery life... ah man I'm slightly worried now :(

sounds like your problem is to do with either 3G coverage or connecting to the 3G network. If it's struggling to connect when you switch it back to 3G chances are it's struggling maintaining the connection all the time 3G is on, or flipping on and off 3G, thus destroying your battery. Could either be a location issue, or it could be network, or the phone.

If they made it compatible with PSP games then yea I can see it being a huge hit. However if they don't then they will be relying on developers making decent games for it, which of course they probably wont, especially at the start...

For the record, I get around 24 hours medium usage out of my Desire before it dies (literally) so I charge it every night.

I think without a UMD slot, it'll flop. And putting one of those in would mean massive backtracking from Sony.

I admit, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. The biggest one is the OS for me. I'd like the XMB with some Android added for phone functions, not Android with some PSP functions, if you get me.
