1k 4x4 whats out there

I think you'd be hard pushed to get a good Disco for £1k.

This is the last sub £1k Disco I saw, bare in mind this is after most of the rust had been grinded off ready for welding.

I've had a couple of Jeep Cherokees and both have been great. Thirsty and my Orvis is group 17 insurance which is a bit strong IMO.

You could get an LPG 4.0L for £1K. Homework would be needed as they are either bargains or knackered and not usually in between.

It's true that there are some right dogs out there.
When I looked for mine a few years back, you wouldn't believe the rust on some of them (or perhaps you would lol) I looked at.
A D1 is gonna have rust, even if has been well looked after. Best thing to do is have a good look and decide if it's bad, or repairable without costing as much as the vehicle

@ OP for a dicovery 1 - look at the wheel arches, sills, boot floor (underneath carpet), front foot wells, chassis rails/outriggers, cross-members (esp the rear).
Small surface rust is ok, but if there's lots of holes, walk away, there's plenty of other 4x4 motors to choose from.

What does your friend want from a 4x4? Is it just for on the road during winter or do they intend on greenlaning or offroading?

I picked up my shogun for £560 with 10months mot and 6 months tax and so far its been very reliable and i have given it some stick off road.

Only down side is the MPG is pretty shocking - Low 20s for my 3lt V6 Auto.
I hate your car, but for that sort of money that's not a bad motor at all!

If you can find an old imported jap 4x4 they are usually in very good condition. Forget landrovers, you won't get a good one of those for £1k.

I seem to remember a FWD base model for the American market, but I think the majority are 4WD.
