Who has hung their keys up for the winter?

No, but it is a 1700KG, RWD automatic barge with wide tyres and what is easily approaching 300bhp. All the moderate throttle input in the world is not going to make unexpectedly hitting black ice fun in this thing fun.

Lets not get carried away - it's on 225's not 'wide tyres'.

You guys genuinelly are awesome :)

Thanks for the praise. We don't have a choice really, it's just getting the job done. I've seen me drive our Volvo FL6 Road Rescue Unit to a road traffic collision at this time of year and have to stop 3 times to assist crashed motorists on the way before we eventually get to the original incident we were first turned out to.

Since October I'm now off the driving as after 21 years in the job I finally got my finger out and went for a promotion to Crew Manager / OIC and was successful but my bum still twitches a little on the way to shouts even in the passenger seat. :p

Hang up my keys for winter?! What and use public transport?! LOLOLOLOL! :D :D :D

That hilarity aside, why would I want to hang my keys up?

Don't lie, you told me you won't be riding your Bike in this weather :D

I don't have two cars, but I won't be afraid to go out if required in a bit of snow. I won't do any unnecessary driving for fear of the other retards on the road. (well maybe a bit of car park action)

Primary use of my car is a tool for A) getting me to work and B) getting me around for work use so unless I can't physically get it up the road I'll continue to use it.

Actually it's on 245s on the rears which will be very soon replaced by 275s :).

I'm not saying that the 245s are ridiculously wide, but they are wider than what most people run and only exacerbates the issues caused by the other factors that I mentioned.

My 280bhp zx is auto and I find it much easier than a manual in the snow even with 265 rear rubber, granted if you loose momentum up a hill it struggles but you just have to judge it well and not panic.

I'd have though not having the ability to slip a clutch would make pulling away in the snow a bit of an issue?

Nah, either use the dedicated snow mode, lock it in 1st or 2nd, or simply be gentle with the throttle. Autobox softens the response nicely.

Or not:

:p

Pfft, I run them on the front ;)

275's though, hope you are ready for the tyre costs on those. My 265's are approaching £200 a corner now - minimum of £160 a corner for anything not crap.

I'm afraid I'll be going with your long time favourite brand of Tyres - Kumhos :D

Given the fact that they are something like £250 cheaper than PS2s PER CORNER I'm willing to put up with the slating I might get from the tyre snobs ;).

Still, I miss not having 15'' wheels. Oh the days when I could get a set of 4 premium tyres and still get change from £200... They'd probably work better in the snow too :p

True... but that's because I value having my male parts on the OUTSIDE of my body! :D

Also, it does scare the crap out of me riding a bike on ice/snow covered roads :(

My choice is a 45 minute walk or a 5 minute drive - public transport is too fiddly to bother with for my commute.

Although there's no snow, I'm beginning to think it's a windup TBH, I'm still talking the car more...it's bloody cold out there! If the snow ever does show up, it won't affect my decision in the slightest. I'll just have to be careful to keep it out of VTEC or I could be in real trouble

Saturday morning I saw snow so the first thing I did was grab the keys to my wifes MX-5 and went skidding on the church car park!

Exactly what I did with mine. Why the hell would I hang them up? It's great fun.

Last year I commuted over 2 hours in my mx5 in the worst of the snow. It's pretty flat so there were no problems :)
