Hey LordAzathoth :)

When you say the "best" cooler do you mean the best in the world . . money ££ no object . . or do you mean best bang-for-buck or what?

lol well when I was looking the dearest were around 80 on air.
I don't want liquid because it's too expensive(apart from the H50?)

are you running the chip at stock or planning to overclock it?

if you are going to OC it, how much, what sort of voltage are you shoving through it?
whats the thermals of your case like? what case have you got, what intake and out fans are you using?

I do want to OC it. don't have the case yet, should be either a haf 922/932 or X depends on my finances..but they do have good cooling (don't they?)
sorry if I wasn't accurate enough in my description

cool I thought it would be more expensive
I have seen a Noctua around £60 not worth it I have read good stuff about it but it doesn't work as good on AM3 as opposed to intel lga

+1 for the fenrir.

No other cooler has managed to have such a decent combo of price/performance/size/simplicity/cost.

You will top out around 4.0ghz way before heat becomes a problem. It is largley the architecture that limits things not heat. You do not need anything more on am3.

+1 for the Venom, my 965 is running at 18-23 idle, 29 max load at stock which mean's I should have quite a bit of overhead for O/C!
