I don't think many people can complain at AMD's socket structure, they're generally very good at compatibility between generations. Compared to Intel, they're amazing for that.
But isn't Sandy Bridge due out in the next couple of months?

AMD had better have an awesome product here if we want a competitive, awesomely priced couple of years.
Sandybridge on socket 1155 launches 5th January followed by the high end socket 2011 in Q3 next year.
We hope so. We need more competition in the cpu market. AMD has it on price but not performance. Being on at least equal ground with Sandybridge would be good.
Indeed it would be good, however if they were on equal ground in terms of performance then they would most likely be priced similarly too.
