I bought this case from OCUK and it came with a 500w Power Supply which obviously, for the price, isn't gonna be great.

My question is, what's the best spec machine I could run with this power supply? I'm building a computer for the mrs' nan for Christmas so obviously don't want to build something that's gonna die after a couple of hours/days of use.

Cheers in advance

It should be OK for all office type things, intense gaming may strain it, but I doubt your Mrs' Nan is gonna be rocking Crysis etc into the small hours of each morning :p

The question isn't just 'what's the best spec machine I could run with this power supply?' but also 'is the saving on the power supply worth the risk of it going bang?'

Quite. I know it's a low end rig and all that, but there is no way i would use a cheap and nasty psu on any rig of mine. EZ-Cool are very bad psu's as well..

Ok, so what's the best 'budget' psu I could get?

The PC will be a 2.5GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core with onboard graphics, 2GB Ram, 500GB Hard Drive.

Thanks

Just had a quick look around and you can get a 380w Seasonic S12 ll for £35 elsewhere. That rig will only pull around 100w and i am running a more powerful rig off a 385w Enermax Pro 82+.

Why job done? They are inferior to the units they have replaced, only have two years warranty now and they will not send any out to reviewers which ring's alarm bells for me. I would'nt recommend the Corsair builder series to anyone until someone get's hold of one and does a proper review.
