what would you like to see in the next windows

Why hasn't windows got a working profile, gaming profile etc that can be changed on the fly.

If I want to play a game, the OS should swich off all the crap, let the GPU,memory and CPU to do what it needs to do, same thing if I render or compile.

That would be a good idea..... or a gamers os.....

To be honest I am really pleased the way Windows 7 turned out, they should let businesses catch up and make it a solid OS for few years to come. Develop Windows 8 (whatever it may be called).

I accept the UAC whitelist issue, but there MUST be ways of securing applications - certificates and re-compile, possibly?

Fact is, UAC is a big PITA, especially in an enterprise environment with legacy apps that were written by companies who no longer exist. I appreciate why UAC is there and how insecure XP was/is, but in some ways the problem is not solved - UAC just means people will run as local admin as default.

Even using an admin account wont stop UAC prompting - you just click OK or Yes instead of entering your username/password.

You can make UAC more lenient if required.

If you have legacy apps that absolutely require admin accounts to run, then I would either limit them to XP only machines [if only a small number of people need to use them] or alternatively run them in a virtual machine.

Windows 7 Pro and above comes with XP mode for just this purpose.

I want the XP search function back.

Perhaps some form of Sandbox internet browsing option where you can't get infected with spyware/viruses.

search function is the only thing i can think of, i like the current one that searches indexed areas but we also need an old school slow whole computer search function!

An option to lose all the bloat: services, Aero, events, logs, caching and all the other "features" that consume CPU cycles except for DirectX, drivers and command-line interface/shortcuts.
It should be called "extreme gaming mode".

Proper independent user accounts, ie, each of you installs a program but that doesn't affect all the other users. So I install firefox but the other users could install chrome or kids games without affecting me at all.

There is also a new BIOS type being developed to replace the legacy ones we've had for the last elevently years which is meant to POST much quicker but sleep is best option for now.

Interpolation and smoothing of images when zoomed past 100% in windows picture viewer, quite why it was removed after XP I don't know.

I can't remember if I already mentioned this, but I wish they'd fix how IE screws up favicons for websites. The IE jumplist just looks like a mess.

:D

It's a bit of a faff to install to EFI hardware from what I have read. So perhaps the feature you want is "faffless" EFI install! :p

Start again :p

Not because it's bad, rather that I bet they could do amazing things if they cut all the legacy junk free.
