As a new and first time home owner (bought in November '09 moved in in March '10) there are a list of bits I want to or need to get done next year. I just wondered if anyone else has a list of stuff that they are planning to do around the house?

mine.

  • board out 1/4 of the loft and properly insulate the rest
  • install loft ladder
  • remove old boiler chimney from loft (not structual to the house in any way and looking a little wobbly)
  • replaster and decorate the box room
  • rip out old bathroom and redecorate
  • paint the hallway/landing
  • sort out some proper shelving in the shed

New Bathroom, New front door, Gloss all doors and skirting boards etc, insulation in the loft. that should keep me going for a good few months, oh and put a new HDD in my laptop :D

Ive got all sorts, we are looking at re-decorating pretty much the entire flat (appart from the bathroom which was completely ripped out and replaced about a year back). starting with installing the new kitchen just after christmas.

Other things I need to do are:

Clear the garage - There is all kinds of crap in there.

Get new boiler installed - The hot water is playing up, the boiler is an old potterson and I used to know a company that sent round this little guy, about 3 feet tall, who used to stand on my kitchen side and solder new bits onto the control board, he was an absolute legend and very reasonable. Unfortunatly they went bust and now nobody wants to tuch my boiler :( - Luckily we have a power shower so its not end of the world stuff, just annoying boiling a kettle to wash up.

The spare room washing cupbord, currently has the tumble dryer etc in but no power and an extension socket needs to be run into the cupbord.

There are a whole load of other things that I was thinking about doing in the new year but getting around to actually doing them is a whole different story.

No idea when I'm going to find the time to do this lot, let alone the cash!

Renovate the kitchen - new floor & worktops, plaster and paint the walls & ceiling
Redo the sealant round the back door so it stops leaking when it's windy
Wire up all the phone extensions that got disconnected when the master socket was moved
Plane the bottom of the bathroom door to stop it catching on the floor tiles
Replace the shaver socket with the new one that's sat on my desk
Paint the vestibule between the storm doors and the front door
Turf the bits of the garden that I've been meaning to do for 3 years
Get another sofa for the lounge so that more than 4 folk can sit down.

- Paint the kitchen including the ceiling
- Paint living room where it has been re-plastered and paint the ceiling
- Fit a new light in kitchen and bathroom
- Decorate hallway, stairs and landing
- Convert tip of a spare room into a neat study with sofa bed for guests, maybe redecorate too.
- Chop down hedges in back garden, and re-fence

All in all, I expect I'll get the first two done anything else is a bonus :(

New skirting board in bedroom
decorate spare room for a 2 year old
redecorate nursery for new arrival
finish paiting the living room
re-turf lawn in back garden
lay new path in back garden
build a shed (you guessed it, in the back garden)
wash car at some point

Decorate hallway, staircase and landing. It has this horrible artex on it which HAS to come off......nightmare job.
Fit a railing to the stairs.
Decorate the kids room.
Put a fence up out the front.
Finish off the floor & the trim of the kitchen.
Put a light in at the top of the stairs, probably pay for that as me & leccy dont mix.
Extractor fan in the toilet just broke, fix or replace it soon.
The patio doors to the back garden are wrecked, need to pay someone for that though as I wouldn't have a clue.
New kitchen door, well she wants all new doors downstairs.
Living room need papered & painted, we have the stuff but not the time.

In between the general wear & tear that goes on with a house full of teenagers. I think thats most of it, pretty depressing really lol.

Get the kitchen redone.
Repaint the conservatory and the porch.
Some of the woodwork at the front and back of the house needs repainting.
Recarpet two rooms upstairs.

Got them wrote out for the Mrs's to do, top of the list is to clean the white guttering, double glazing and door's....:D
