I wouldn't be so hasty. £7.5k gets you a 'refurbished' mk1 MX5 with 220bhp and backed by a warranty etc.

Sure you could do it for less DIY but I think this is a nice performance car package that should be reliable. It's for the guy who just wants to drive rather than spend time under the hood.

Problem is is still a MK1 MX-5 regardless of the amount of power under the hood, imho a much better route would be to take 7.5k run out and get yourself a nice MK2 / MK2.5 and spend the rest of a supercharger kit or a turbo if you must.

Granted you won't get as much power with a supercharger but its much less complex, kits are much cheaper to buy and the progressive nature suits the MX-5's road manners better.

Perhaps i'm looking at this from too much of a DIY angle.

Yup I think so. Everyone knows you can 'build' a better car for less money. But if you simply want to go out and BUY one it's not so easy.

Who's going to do it for you? Phil @ P5?? Maybe if you want to wait months and have it done in between all his other projects / priorities etc.

If it truly is a refurbed car then it's good VFM.

By refurbed I mean:

* zero rust
* wishbones: either new or shot blasted & painted
* bushes replaced
* brakes
* undersealed
* clutch.

Interestingly I can't see any mention of a clutch on their website. Also by the time you add 'essential' upgrades like bigger brakes and LSD I'd imagine the price to jump a little.

the kit for the mk3 looks a bit more interesting - although still £5 for a (fitted) supercharger and only 235 bhp isn't great.

As far as I'm aware the dark side investigations for the mk3 haven't been overly successful so far (due to Mazda using weaker engines in the newer cars) muchos munched internals :(

Anyone got a link for that Special Edition mk2 mx5 that was quite a bit more powerful, think it was in a gun metal grey colour, it looked awesome
