How much do you care about the food you eat?

I'm not specifically talking about your diet, but more the quality of the things you eat.
For instance do you always eat free-range meat and organic veg, or do you not care about (or can't afford) that sort of stuff?

Personally I try and eat decent quality stuff when I can. I'll happily pay for a decent bit of meat from the butchers rather than put up with inferior quality stuff from the supermarket.
We also have a local farmer's market every Saturday so it's good to have a wander round there and pick up some in season fruit and veg.

For me it's primarily about the taste, but it's nice knowing that the animals you're eating have had a decent existence as well.

My local butcher is really enthusiastic about meat too, so it's good to go in there and have a chat and about things. It's not the sort of attitude you'd generally find behind the butchers counter at a supermarket.
I will admit that I do eat some crap quality stuff sometimes, but try to make it the exception rather than the rule.
 
Organic, grass fed, free range meat, or I don't eat it. This is what I apply to 'factory' farmed foods like dairy etc. Other food groups like live foods (vegetables) or vegetable proteins (almond butter, pecans, green beans) I still do my utmost to buy organic as well.

I always buy freerange where possible. I don't really buy in to the whole organic thing personally but I do care about the welfare of the animals, even if they are being bred for food.

I honestly cant say that I give a stuff. There is only one factor that enters into my food purchases and thats "Do I like the taste of this". If its a yes then I buy it, dont care about anything pre it arriving in my belly.
 
Pretty much with you there Haircut, probably about 90 - 95%. It's all about the quality of the food for me, but whether the animal's had a good life or not doesn't really figure. I guess the fact that higher quality meat comes from animals who are treated better keeps me mostly ethical, but I can't really claim that it's my intention. Also, while I'm not too fussy about spending extra for better quality food (be it fruit & veg, meat, sundries etc), I'm also aware that I'm generally just as happy with a lower-cost item - I'm a big fan of rump steak, and prefer the taste of rump or sirloin over fillet.
 
If I could afford it then I would, but being a cheap student it's quantity over quality really.
 
I'm not bothered about organic, free range or fair trade. I try to avoid all ready meals/pre-prepared food. I'll give everything I buy a good once over to make sure it's not bruised, or too fatty/lean, etc., but that's about it.

Organic meat improves the health of animals. The human health aspects have been under scrutiny but i think people should stop looking at organic food as better for you rather than better for everything else.

Eggs need to be free-range, but other than that I don't really care.

I avoid reformed chicken where possible though, and the only budget/basics/value stuff I buy is diced beef for slow cooking or crackers.
 
I do, until Friday evening when i have a takeaway and then i'm back on my diet the day after.
 
I generally don't by cheap own brands "value" stuff, if I can't afford a certain item or deem it too expensive I won't buy it, cheap tasteless food is just a waste of money.

Generally I will buy better quality stuff but not the most expensive ones.
 
I like free-range eggs and enjoyed them when at uni but back home now I have caged and the difference to me is quite obvious.

I can appreciate the different in quality with well farmed meat and would love to have it but can't always afford it. The difference between processed meat and what I call 'pure or proper' meat is obviously night and day too.

As for my vegetables I couldn't give a toss whether they're organic or not.

On the whole as long as it's proper complete food then it's a case of get in my belly.
