Traffic stopped in front of me today, and so did I, but the driver behind decided to use the back end of my Scenic to stop instead!

Hatch is buckled and stuck locked down, bumper smashed to bits, and I can see through one of the holes in the bumper that the boot floor is bent too, so I'm assuming the worst and a write off.

Hoping to get £1000 to £1500 if it is written off (plus whip lash of course, lol!), so looking to spend 2k on something reliable and less than 10 years old.

The Scenic's sitting at 29.5mpg over the last 1000 or so miles, mostly driving through reasonably heavy traffic, and short journeys, and I want the replacement to at least match this, but preferably better it by a decent margin.

Needs to be an estate, MPV or 4x4 style for the dog, hatchback/saloon's not practical unfortunately. Cheers.

Whiplash was a joke of course, although my neck is a little sore...

Been thinking about changing for a while now, just something else always seems to come up money wise, so this seems like an ideal opportunity.

Another Scenic is the obvious choice, but I do quite fancy a change, as long as it's to something practical too, I'll go take a look on the 'Trader for Scenics! :p

Mondeo mk3 2.0l Estate. Should be able to get a decent 52/03 plate for £2k now and I easily get low 30's in mine which is either driven hard or stuck in traffic. They're a damn sight better to drive than Scenics as well.

I doubt there is much to be said about the 'drive' of either a scenic or a mondeo estate tbh :p

Compare it to the choice between being kicked in the balls or the shin. You don't want either but you'd take the shin given the choice. Joking aside Mondeo's are pretty good for a normal car, better than the competition anyway.

The Mondeo has always been blessed with handling far better than a large family hatchback or estate has any need to have. It's a better drive than the rest of its class let alone MPV's from a class below. And away from the world of handling, a Mondeo Estate is better built, more refined and simply a nicer place to be than a Renault Megane Scenic.

Sorry fella, i read that as 'Oh there it is' for some reason, hence the question marks :)

could get a reasonable Mk1/Mk1.5 Focus Estate for that cash, 1.8 or 2.0 will both easily meet the MPG requirements and most Ghia Focus Estates are reasonably specced (air con/Climate, heated front screen, electric drivers seat etc....

Otherwise a mk3 Mondeo Estate will be bigger, better kitted out, and probably not far off in the MPG stakes.
