120hz with a GTX480 on desktop

Ive noticed when running in 120hz mode on the desktop the 480 runs from 50hz to 400hz.

I was just wondering how much extra wattage this is causing?

Do you have adapative power management set in the nVidia control panel? on my 470 even with my 120Hz panel it drops back to 50MHz properly when idle and only jumps to 400 if I'm using a graphically intensive app.

Yep i just checked its on and im currently at 405Hz just browsing the forums

mine used to throttle back to 50mhz all the time on my old 22 inch 120hz monitor but now on my new 1080p 24 inch one the lowest it ever goes is 405mhz, maybe the bump in bandwidth needed has caused this? dunno really, but planning on getting 570 sli shortly after xmas so not too worried

my very first 470 had the same problem even with adaptive power management on

the 70c idle temps made me return it as i thought it was faulty

are you sure the 570 wont have the same problem

after the 470 probs i got a 460 and the idle temps were 35-40c so im guessing they fixed it in the GF104

i just hope its fixed in the GF110 as well

can anyone with a 580 and 120hz confirm?

Ive had a 120hz screen since released,both my 480 and now my 580 both idle at 405mhz.

Its nothing to worry about its normal, if the clocks were idle at 50hz with a 120hz screen you would get severe problems,ie flickering etc

my 470 idled at 68-70c and according to xtremesystems the idle power consumption is up by 40-60watts when at 405Mhz

what temp does your 580 idle at

1680x1050 @ 120Hz works fine at 50MHz here... not sure about higher resolutions tho. Possibly 1920x requires the faster clock rate even when idle at 120Hz.

what temp does your 580 idle at

must have been faulty or poorly applied paste at the factory or something, my gtx 480 is at 405mhz now and is idling at 49c after an hour or so of use

My idle temps are @ 405mhz are 40c and thats with a voltage of 1075.

If my voltage was at the default 962,my temps would be around 35c

Running @ 405mhz is no different to having 2 screens running on the same card

It pays to have a Silverstone FT02 case.
