Just got myself a spanking new snowboard and want to test it out.

Where would people recommend going this weekend? (best snow, good hill) I live near Kingston (TW16) so anywhere within 30mins to an hours drive away. I was thinking box hill in Dorking, but not sure what the snow will be like.

Lets hear your recommendations!

Thought you were asking for holiday destinations.

I'd go for some hardcore urban snowboard groove creating patchy snow covered concrete boarding.

ala isenseven??? :D

I forgot to mention the snow is rubbish in my area, only got about an inch. So basically looking for snow reports from surrounding areas.

Sounds like a good way to ruin a new snowboard!

Seriously, there isn't enough snow to really snowboard. All you can do is run a flat base, as the snow isn't deep enough to be able to use an edge properly to turn.

I've got an old 'rock' board that I use when we get enough snow in the UK to attempt to ride it. Last time I used the board was in the Chilterns, when there was more snow than this... you should have seen the state of the base afterwards!

A small covering of snow hides stones, rocks, roots, rubbish etc...
You will ruin the base of a new board if you try and use it on this snowfall.

A friend has been snowboarding on Primrose Hill today. Not a huge amount of snow but the vid looks like it is perfectly sufficient.

Can't post a link as it is on Facebook so here a couple of stills:

Box Hill is a good option, expect it to be packed though.

Head up to Hillingdon? or the snow dome at MK will be pretty clear for you to have some fun :p

True, very true. However I find you damage your board enough in snow parks and on normal piste, without throwing it down hills like that! :p

I'm blessed with access to a montana Diamond robot and far too many pairs of skis, not uncommon for me to be under the influence and grab a tow from up mate up the road when I'm in france.....

I fully appreciate thats far from the norm but one of the perks of ski instructing is masses of freebies!

I pretty much live and breath for Snowboarding, however...

I'm only a couple of miles from Primrose Hill and there really isn't enough snow outside to warrant bothering.

You will walk up a little hill.
Then slowly just go down it on a flat base, as you won't be able to turn.

It would be more worthwhile on a toboggan. But, you've also got factor in that with how little snow there is, it will get be patchy the second other people get there with their toboggans.

I'll give you that you are less likely to damage a board on a hill like that, as it's mostly grass. However, you still don't know what is lurking underneath.

Yes you can fix stuff with ptex, but using my rock board in the UK, I've got three core shots, and numerous deep scratches, dented edges and bits I had to cut off the base. That's all from just a few runs.

All I'm trying to say is that it's not worth it unless it really snows, or you have an old board you don't care about damaging.
