which is the best way stitch a 2 cd avi files into 1 file so it can be burnt onto a dvd playable to play in stand alone dvd player.

i have several programs : handbrake, auto gordianknot etc but never needed to stitch them together until now!

friend wants to watch movie in 1 continuous instead of 2 separate parts.

thanks Ali

convertxtodvd? Tell it to play the next file at the end of the first, rather than going back to the menu. Or just don't even bother with a menu.

sorry forgot to mention would prefer free copy as im probably only going to use it once!

virtualdub / virtualdobmod / nandub or something to do the stitiching

then i think its tmpeg which can encode to mpeg2 then you can burn that using imgburn to dvd.. Or Nero re-encode might do the trick, it's not free, but is often bundled.

Just use Virtualdub to "append" the second file to the first. Ensure that the audio and video is done as a direct stream copy then they do not get encoded and the appending process is done very quickly.

If the avi files are actually xvid you will need the appropriate encoder installed first.

You can also do it with avidemux.

i think i have done it!
using dvdflick there is setting to add 2 files together (stitch)
it seems ok when i play back but i havent watched whole film to see

guess we will find out when my friend complains if he doesnt then yay it worked!!

I use virtualdub to stitch with teh settings to keep source video/audio so no reprocessing is done, only stitching. Then the output is authored into a dvd in dvdflick. Always works :)

I just stitched a bunch of stuff together too using virtualdub. Did about 20 GB worth of avi in about 10 minutes with the direct stream copy option.

might try again with virtualdub as i do actually have a load of 2cd films which would be nice as 1 !
