You getting only a burning smell ? Or what about the odd squealing noise (and no not from her when she picks up your socks ;) )

pfft sorted now :)

stripped it down and got in about it with the compressed air, was surprisingly cleaner than i expected but there was the odd bit of lint kicking around, an hours use since rebuild and no burning smell

Yaaa man points

Was going to say, open it up and have a look. Appliances are amazingly simple and without fail are very easy to fix given an ounce of common sense :)

The usual way this works where I work (Big electrical retailler) is that if you can get a report from an independent engineer / repairman stating this is something that was a fault from purchase than yes we'll swap over the unit (plus refund you the cost of the independent engineer report).

Hope this helps! Where did you purchase the unit?

he's fixed it...

currys was where i bought it, phoned them this morning regarding this "issue" and got nothing but abuse and stupid comments about it only having a 12 month guarantee as its only a tumble dryer.

but as above stripped down blew everything out with compressed air and its tickety boo and thats now 2 loads that i've ran through it quite happily :)

still think it needs lowered and a bit more oomph from the motor, maybe some carbon trim might help?

I've repaired tumble dryers for around 27 years and I really love a stroppy customer who pitches straight in with all the legal crap when ............. 99.9% of tumble dryers only produce a burning smell when they full of lint through not having the filter emptied often enough.

Have fun :D

Ah a tumble dryer guy.

Have you found that some brands are miles better thna others? Obviously a lot are now owned by the same company with different brands but i just wondered what you had experienced.

Good job fixing it there young man! Going back to the original 'wher do you stand' bit, i have found that a nicely worded email to the manufacturer explaining how you regularly purchase their products and are suprised how short this one has lasted and how you are aware how good their customer service reputation is can work wonders.

I bought an expensive Tefal iron (£100'ish) a few years ago, it blew up after 3 years, shop didnt want to know so i emailed tefal along the lines of the above, a nice lady rung me up, told me to cut the plug off and send it back to them. 3 days later their top of the range iron was delivered by courier as a replacement. Cracking customer service!

Surely you can get insurance for house utility breakdown for your washing machine, tumble dryer, dish washer etc

If you dont then its either pay someone to repair it, or buy a new one.

14 months will be out of warranty, unless you opted for extended warranty

Yes I have but I'm a bit reluctant to say anything in a ridiculous thread like this in case I have to defend my comments in court !
But, imho most are only built to last three years so at great personal risk ............ only brand I recommend now is Bosch, everything else is basically rubbish except for Miele who are not what they were and an increasing nightmare to get repaired.

having just bought the top end bosch tumble you made me happy lol.

Good move just keep the filter and condenser clean and it should last.

its the WTW84560GB which they say has a self cleaning condenser. We'll see about that.

I empty the filter after every load though. One thing i was surprised at is just how much water collects from one load of washing. before we had a front venting one and its shocking to think that so much water would be ejected into the room.

I really don't know what to say about this comment.
What you should have said is that some repairs are simple with a bit of common sense but that didn't stop 100s of domestic appliances being floored every week because people who had been snaggers for over 2 decades couldn't always work out the problem.
Sometimes we'd have up to 10 snaggers standing round a problem until a solution was found and then we'd add it to the database of repairs.

Ok, some problems may be nightmare'ish enough to be terminal.

But stuff like a dryer, come on, i assume you have seen inside a dryer :p

I was a domestic appliance snagger on/off for 27 years.
I had a stamp to work on every product as well as being the Quality Audit Technician for the factory.
This meant nobody could pull the wool over my eyes.
