Hi,

I recently purchased some of these JBL jobbies to upgrade the stock Ford speakers in the Focus I just got.

I've not installed them yet or had a test due to the damn snow, but something is bugging me!

On the Tweeter there is a button for either 0db or -3db...what exactly does this do?
I must admit I am not up on my sounds/speakers etc, so really don't understand much about it all!

If anyone could shed some light on the Tweeter levels it would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Arran

If you have -3db set, you'll quieten the high range, 0db will sound 'brighter'. With the stock Ford HU which gives quite a dull sound I'd go for 0db. Alpine head units give quite a bright sound so on my JBLs I preferred -3db. Best way I can think of describing it.

Cheers for the reply.

I've got a half decent sony headunit, cost me about £100 ish in 2007/8, so probably be a bit outdated now.

Has 4x50W amp output, seems to be the norm ish...!

So basically 0 will sound crisper? and -3 will be a little bit more bassy and less clear?

If you like it excessively loud (as in chav competition style loud!) then have it on -3 so it won't make your ears bleed, otherwise leave it on 0 so you get the clarity.

it's not as clear cut as that, because more isn't necessarily better, it's how the high notes are balanced in the mix. I'd set it to 0 first and see if, at high volumes, your ears are getting tender listening to or its too bright in the sound mix. if so then drop it to -3
