Hi chaps...

I'm one of these folks that can't really do FPS on a pad, however I've never had a problem with the COD series on XBox/PS3 due to the (what I'm calling) Aim Assist...

This might not be the right term, but I'm talking about the facility that means when you aim down the barrel in the vicinity of a baddy, it kinda snaps to them... This was there all the way through the SP campaign and was in MW & MW2 both SP & MP, but it seems to be missing in Black Ops Multiplayer  and now I'm finding it mighty tricky :(

Have they disabled this feature online maybe so that only the very practiced folks get to excel or it is very much weapon related hence why the basic weapons when you first start online don't do it?

The "snap-to-aim" has never been present in COD Multiplayer. I find it very annoying in singleplayer and disable aim assist were possible.

COD uses slight 'sticky aim' in multiplayer instead, where the crosshairs stick to the enemy if they run across infront of you.

I didn't play any MW2 MP, but it is 100% present in COD4:MW Multiplayer!

I find that single feature bridges the gap and enables console players to make kills with a similar efficiency (not quite but similar) to kb/mouse - without it the game feels clunky and imprecise do you not think?

I certainly can't remember it in Cod 4 but i feel like i can aim very well and fast with the pad.

I always find the lower sensitivities to be better. For Black Ops I just use the default "Medium" setting. Same with MW2 and COD4, I always used Medium or Medium+1.

Don't know how all those ones in those Youtube videos can play with a pad at the "Insane" level!

I've never played the other cod games but the aim assist in black ops is HUGE so I don't know how it can be missing for you. Maybe you accidentally turned it off in the options?

Slight? The auto aim is massive!

can't say I can really notice it tbh

You're saying if I aim near someone the crosshair hones in on them to some degree?

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on the snapping in MW MP for now, I might pop it on later out of interest cuz unless my mind is playing tricks I distinctly remember it...

There are 2 type of auto aim in multiplayer:

1 - sticky aim - where the cross-hair follows and predicts opponents movements, including slowing down your aiming when you are aiming near a person and moving the aim for you to follow people. This even works when someone is just behind a rock/wall and you can't see them! I've used this to tell if someone is just around a corner and I start shooting the split second I turn the corner, getting called a cheater in the process :P

2 - bullet magnetism - got a near miss with a sniper on a stationary opponent yet still got your headshot? That's bullet magnetism! This is hard to differentiate from laggy hitboxes in motion, but it's quite prominent.

Its much more noticeable in Black Ops. You can see it in MW2 and COD4, but for some reason Black Ops is the most noticeable for me.

Going by some of the vids that i've seen black ops has bullets that can bend through the air as they get seemingly get headshots when the sight is 4 foot to the left or right of the head:rolleyes:

What sensitivity do you use out of interest?

If you arent very good with a gamepad (Ex PC gamer like me) then start on the lower sensitivity and then slowly work your way up to max. Just up it every month or so. I am up to 8 out of 10 at the moment because I played BF2 and that is a much lower sensitivity setting.

When you are on the max sensitivity then you will pwn! :D

Right... Played a good few hours since we last spoke, and I have seen some aim assist but the reason I haven't really seen it much before is my chosen gun... I've mainly used AK47u and Galil but as soon as I had a go with a proper AK47 the AA was very evident... So that's the answer, it's gun related it seems...
