I cant help it, new car again - 3 series

Looks like it's been transferred at some point as I'm sure the pictures you posted are taken at Ocean Falmouth whereas the car is at Ocean Torbay, over 100 miles away :p

Had the car a few days now but not had a chance to use it with the ice and now snow.

As a package its better than I expected, I dont miss the A8 yet I thought I would.

Interestingly, I feel like im driving again whereas I never felt I wasnt with the A8, going from one to the other really opened my eyes.

The gearbox throw is a bit too long, but my old 530d was the same. Ive ordered a stubby little gear knob that might help this a bit (genuine). The colour has grown on me and is nice in the flesh. It has a nice little rasp from the exhaust which I like.. not loud obviously but quite nice. The driving position is good and I find the seats ideal. Although the A8 was more comfortable, I dont find myself missing it at all.

Road noise is a bit high with the run-flats, so I may consider changing when they get down to a lower tread.

In terms of running costs, its too early to say really but I think its around 30mpg so far. edit: It appears servicing intervals are reasonable too.

Hopefully the snow and ice will go and let me try it on the roads properly.

Looks alright to me, I hope it has cream leather and walnut trim though, that external colour is usually one of the safer bets when it comes to getting a none black/black/black and more black interior. The wheels are indeed a bit plain though, I guess if you're bothered you can change them, I've kind of lost interest in wheels bit now, aslong as I don't dislike the design, I'm more interested in ride comfort than challenging JZ to a 'bling off' now. That '57 plate 330 Fox mention for a couple of grand more sounds interesting though, could have well been worth having a shot at that.

However, I can't believe you got rid of an A8 for it, that's quite a major step-down I'd say.

Interestingly my Dad just bought a 7 month old A8, 4.2 TDI SE, I don't know what it's like yet though as he was going to take delivery of it Thursday but since we were both going away he told them to hang onto it over the weekend, we're both in Munich right now, and it's anyone's guess if we can get back Monday as planned, also they lost our luggage :( ... I hate airports, especially a this time of year, y'know it took us 18 hours to get from Birmingham to Munich via Brussels! ...it was originally a 55 minute transfer! Grrrr.

If I get stuck here I think I'm going to head over to Olympic park and check out BMW HQ though. Actually i'd like to do that anyway I just don't think we have the time, unless we get stuck.

Missed this thread first time round. Car looks great and in my favourite e9# colour!

I'm right in saying that isn't an M-Sport right? I must admit I prefer the non M-Sport ones, I just can't get on with that aggressive front bumper they have.

Done about 1000 miles now with the car.

Economy: 25mpg around town and B roads only and 33mpg ish across mainly duals/mways. Combined is bang on 30mpg according to the reset computer.

Power: Strange. Altough a twin turbey it pulls across the range, and as it starts so damn low you dont notice any lag. While it doesnt throw you into the back of the seat, the torque is super fleixible... so it will pull nicely from 30mph in 6th. Its very much like a small v8 as intended. It doesnt feel that fast, but let it go above 4k and it really flies.

And it sounds quite nice too.

Next issue is the option to change from run flats to normal tyres.... I assume ill need some kind of tyre repair kit if i do? Doesnt seem to have space for a spare.

Out of intrest what RFT does it have on it? My 335d has Pilot Sport 2 ZPs and I have every intention of putting them on it again when its time for replacement.

You've got the best RFT there......don't whatever you do put Bridgestone RFT's on!

Thats why I asked as I knew the PS2 ZP are rated very highley just wondered what other people had, as the ride in mine is very good (given its an M-Sport) and other than being a bit noisy when cold they work very well.

Not sure accurate the on board comp is but went Glasgow to Edinburgh and back today and a steady 80mph for the most part with next to no slow downs and it says 43mpg

I reset it specifically to see how I done on an easy steady drive. That what it says anyway :)

Now I'm properly interested. I got 35 mpg along the M8 the other week...

I'd be really interested if you could verify the accuracy of the mpg. If it's capable of LOL mpg when you simply set the cruise to 70 and forget about it, then it's a no brainer. I dont care about MPG unless I'm on a long trip, where I like to squeeze as much as possible out of it.

43mpg round trip is excellent, far better than I'd have expected.

What i'd like to do is have some sort of a rough idea whether the gap between 330i and 335i is as far apart as it is in the manufacturers figures, or whether in the real world they are barely any different...
