Who Are Your Favourite Stand-Ups?

Peter Kay used to be fine in the begining until he just kept repeating the same joke over and over then recharging people for it. 3 stand up DVDs based on 1 routine.
That's the point - he's not done anything since the beginning. He did two tours - one in 2000, one in 2003.. The second tour was recorded twice within a few months, for some reason.

It's not likely he's continually going round the country doing the same material.

have you been locked in a cupboard for the last year? he's doing a monumental set of dates, with monumental unheard of profit splits. And guess what? he's doing the same material again. Despite his joke telling skill (undeniable) he obviously on the whole appeals to the fans of old school comedy and people from bolton, having not seen any old school comedy not on TV other than Jimmy Cricket a couple of years ago is it a more accepted thing in those circuits to use the same material again and again?

No, I'm aware he's doing a new tour. As I haven't been, I can't comment.

Watched the Rhod Gilbert DVD tonight.

Think I laughed twice, and both times it was because I'd heard the joke before.

1) The torch with the power of a million candles for THREE NINETY NINE!!!.. Tesco sell 26 for £2.99, that's a saving of over 800 GRAND!

2)...Do you want duck or goose? I'm not sure.. is there a difference?... I shout duck.. she doesn't and I ****'ed her right in the face.

Jimmy Carr
Ross Noble
Dara O'Briain
Reginald D Hunter

Overall Izzard is my favourite, but his 2 most recent tours have been pants :(

those are my 2 favorite bits of his show, and the TOG rating! :D

The two that routinely have me genuinely laughing would be Jim Jefferies and Dara O Briain.

Watching these two alongside some of the more traditional stand up favourites that have been mentioned in this thread is simply no contest in terms of humour and the way they work the crowd.

Tim Minchin (if you could call tim standup!? :P)
Frankie Boyle
Russell Howard
Dara Obrian
Stephen K Amos
Lee Evans
Peter Kay

Watched the Rich Hall DVD the other night and thought it was superb.

The second half of the show was his country band (Otis Lee Crenshaw), some great moments.

Louis CK.

Absolutely destroys me, I wish he'd gain some popularity and tour the UK. Unfortunately I can't link any of his stuff as it sure isn't family friendly, but I emplore you all to check him out!

Frankie boyle is funny but I cant stand macintyre. His material is just horrendous and the only thing that makes him remotely funny is his prancing about and silly voices and delivery.

but you did, you said he's not continually going around the country doing the same material, I was pointing out that he is currently doing just that.

Like I say he is a gifted joke teller, but so was Bernard Manning. I'm dubious that he's even written the majority of the material that he keeps repeating. I know there is a lot of local rumour about him stealing material from new acts, and obviously it wouldn't be too surprising if Dave Spikey wrote a lot of it for him.

I was merely referring to the DVDs - most people give him stick for doing the "same thing for years" when all that seems to happen is the same stuff has been re-released and re-packaged a fair few times in the last 7 years. I just assumed that's what was being referred to here.

I would still find it hard to believe that the new tour has the *same* jokes. Maybe similar style, but not the same. I've just had a quick scan of a few reviews and haven't read anything that would imply otherwise - but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen it.

I've seen it and thought there was some new stuff, but others have commented on the same stuff saying that it's just even older stuff rehashed. There is prob some new material, and it isn't the same tour again, but I'd say it is probably 75%+ old material, which for the amount he's taking from it is pretty disgraceful
