Just got my renewal quote through the post today and it is exactly what it was last year (10 months policy with 1 NCB). Is it worth giving them a call to try and negotiate/haggle it down or is it pretty much written in stone?

Get some quotes from elsewhere, if they're lower then try and haggle.

Direct Line took the mick with me last year. Got some quotes from elsewhere, when faced with them they dropped £hundreds.

Yeah insurance is a bitch this year.

I'm with admiral at the moment. Turned 21 this year and my renewal is up in dec, its only £100 cheaper.

Lame

My renewal went up with Quinn this year by £13 (1st year driving, 1 years no claims now) and I got a quote from Admiral for £600 less!

eCar was 100 quid cheaper this year with my renewal. I then ran quotes online, every one being more expensive than last year, even eCar was quoting a more expensive premium than my renewal both from their site and comparison sites, weird.

In many areas of the insurance market, they lure someone in with a possibly loss-making quote for the first year and then rely on customer inertia making them stay when they crank up the prices in subsequent years.

ALWAYS shop around, even though it's immensely boring.

Admiral was cheapest for my mom even with the initial renewal quote.

So we just ran it through their site as a new quote (had to change subtle things) Then told them that she could get it at that price and they matched it without any fuss.

I know it's daft but Try Elephant and Bell and see if you can get lower quotes through them.. they will uphold them as they're part of the same group if you give them the Quote Ref.

Get a quote as a new customer, if it's lower they will match it and knock a bit more off it. Obviously it's always worth shopping round aswell.

thanks guys.. managed to haggle it down from £862 to £800 over the phone (10 month policy). They wouldn't go any lower than that. This is for a Honda Civic 1.8 56 reg, 27 years, had licence for 1 yr 7 months, 1 year NCB.

I shopped around via various price comparison websites and all of them were significantly more expensive than Admiral.

Me too, you just have to phone and moan.

I think I'm going to give Elephant and Bell a go as well then, the Admiral manager I spoke to was adamant he could not lower my quote any more as they quote their absolute best price to begin with. He was really enthusiastic about the 10month policy until I said I would buy it online if I decide to :D
