Facebook & cartoons

Despite this bandwagon not having been started by NSPCC, they do have a drop down entry for Facebook as reason for making a donation. ;)

Had Saint Seiya Sagittarius for a few hours before I switches to Homer strangulating Bart.

To call the idea silly is pretty disrespectful to the charity's that is raising awareness for.

If you dont feel the idea is worthy of your time then simply ignore it, go find something else to criticise.
I agree with this.
Almost needless to say Facebook is massive and I'd bet donations to the charity are up and it's cost the NSPCC hardly anything - if anything at all.

And that aside, it's created a buzz, I've seen activity in Facebook from friends who haven't done anything with their account in ages, and I doubt not even for one minute any of them feel smug - even those who have donated.

Its a bit of fun that potentially raises awareness and gets people thinking.

And having said all that it got me feeling quite nostalgic!

I Was going to put a pic from Saint Seiya !!! I love that series ! lol

A couple of years ago, during a period of boredom, I contemplated buying the entire series, but was struggling to find non-copied ones on Ebay. I remember writing down a list of all the different "chapters" so I got the order right. I may just have to start looking again...:D

"Apparently having a picture of a cartoon character from my youth will 'help the kids'. Not sure how to be honest, but **** it, He-Man is cool!"

I followed along with a cartoon picture like a sheep. :(

OCUK suitably slapped me round the face like a ginger stepchild!
So I copied the text from here instead and put my money where my mouth is.

Can I now look smug please.:D

I don't give to most charities, but i do agree with following the trends of big crowds so I changed my picture to a cartoon character.

I'd rather give my money to Dogs Trust than NSPCC TBQFH!

I don't see what's wrong with creating awareness for a cause

Especially some I have seen in this thread criticising the wear pink thing. Both that and the cervical cancer campaign (which also got a lot of 'help' from Jade Goody) created a lot of awareness around it and more women than before went to check themselves. And the money that was donated went to research.

Surely no one can say that's wrong?

If this whole thing has made even just some people click on the FB page, leade by the thing that everyone is changing their picture, and from there gone to any of the sites and donated, or done whatever, then what's the problem..

Smug people who change their picture and feel like they have done their bit are probably not ever going to donate to a cause anyway but at least they help spread the word to those who do actually care after 5 minutes has passed.

Is there any reason for that? I appreciate its up to you how you spend your money, but is there something underlying about the NSPCC I'm not aware of? Have they been involved in some kind of scandal?
These are genuine questions from someone who contributes to the NSPCC on a monthly basis.

Its just the way you've worded your argument.

I don't know about scandals but i think the government already pay for places like tracy beaker goes to, they already pay for adoption agencies (those often pay for themselves ;)). Whereas dogs pretty much rely on human donations.

I also prefer dogs to humans.

I decided to not follow the crowd and donate money instead. However this then raised an interesting question in my mind, i'll let my first facebook status update in about 4 years do the talking:

Rather than updating my profile picture to be Panthro, I have instead done something quantifiable and donated money to the NSPCC. Now the question is that's really going to bake my noodle is; is the profile changing fad actually responsible for my donation or would I have donated anyway?

There is no spoon.

Look at the amount of people in this thread alone that have said:

"Im not going to follow the trend, but im going to donate! HAHAHAHAHA whos better now!?!?!?"

You wouldnt of done it if it wasnt for the whole campaign, and your a prime example of the "smug" types that your whining about ;)

Im still rocking Pepe Le Pew, because he is so freaking cool!

I find it ironic that the people who are moaning that this campagin will not do do anything and instead of changing there profile they have donated. Well I can guarenteed that you would not of donated that money if this had not been on facebook.

Edit - beaten like a small child
