Iphone or Andriod: Which first smartphone for Oxy?

I guess we have too agree too disagree mate I find the S AMOLED screen to be better and better in sunlight, i prefer the rich colours and dark blacks, we all like different things that's the beauty of it, some will prefer the iphone 4 its down to personal preference simple, no 1 phone is better they all have good and bad points that's all that needs to be said about it.

Fair enough! And for the record, I do prefer SAMOLED too, I wish it had one, but it not having one isn't something I'd consider a big flaw :)

The newer 45nm version greatly improves low power/idle efficiency, so for light/medium use the DHDs smaller battery has little impact (and only becomes a pita with heavy use) Still a shame HTC didn't use bigger batteries for their 4.3" phones :( 100% screen brightness all the time in summer will be challenging ;)

Its a system you either like or you don't simple as soon as I saw it I thought wow I like that fast and slick and user friendly, I have had Android since the hero came out and tbh a little bored with it as it hasn't changed much maybe that's why I wanted something new, using the DHD was just like using the Desire GUI and using the Hero they are all pretty similar still.

If you have decided on Android I would say DHD if you want a contract now, but I would still pick up a San Francisco and see what comes out in a month or so or you will kick yourself.
 
I wouldn't say WP7 is a love it or hate it OS.

When I first saw it I thought it was horrible, until I looked about it in depth and used one, then I thought it was awesome :p
 
HTC Desire or the HTC DesireHD.

  • Google Services - Better than the equivilent service on the iPhone, for example - Google Maps. Google also update these services via the Market, so you have the latest new features without waiting for an OS update
  • More functionality - Flash player, better web browsing (faster, http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2010/07/android-22-demolishes-ios4-in-javascript-benchmarks.ars), WiFi Hotspot without the need to unlock via paying your carrier, better social API integration
  • Replaceable parts - removeable storage and removeable battery
  • Free cloud services - no need to pay for MobileMe

Reason for HTC specifically is good build quality versus other Android phones and HTC Sense really polishes the UI and makes it look pretty. :)

That's the whole point isn't it? They all have the sense UI so all will look pretty much the same. I upgraded from the hero to the DHD and it was just so much easier since I already knew how to use everything on the phone.
 
Sending me mum up to Orange store tomorrow and Daddy is working away so potentially can check in 5 orange stores in the midlands for me.... hopefully there will be a San Francisco out there for me :)

tbh if I can get one I may just keep it for a year or two, it certainly looks like all I need and with £15pm sim will be a massive bargain.

Hell I think I would even buy a white TFT one if I have to... They can't be that bad? I'm not going to be watching hardly any films or games anyway.

I think in a year or so (provided I can get this SF) I will get HTC's latest and greatest, if I get on with this SF.


Is Android basically an iOS clone? i.e. it does the same cool stuff and layout that I saw on my mates iphone last night.

preferred launcher pro /shrugs :)

Android needs bolting down as it takes far too long for htc for example to add it too there sense UI, so you end up waiting 6 months for it which is a joke.

You have to admit if Apple hadn't released IOS and the Iphone we wouldn't have anything like this now, they are the ones that started this whole phone revolution off, hell when the Iphone was out I had a LG Viewty which at the time was classed as the top phone and IOS destroyed it and paved the way to what's about now.

Unless you ripped Sense out of the ROM you were using which is quite difficult, then you were still using Sense.

Launcher Pro is only a home screen and application draw replacement, you were using it instead of Sense's home screen which is known as "Rosie".

Without Sense, you wouldn't have the better camera application, better contacts application, better dialer, better email client versus the stock Android versions.

I don't get the obsession with LauncherPro, running it on top of Sense gains you nothing but visual improvements (cooler looking app draw, home screen rotation, no icons) at the cost of using more resource as Sense is running in the background still.

Running it without Sense, gives you Sense like widgets but you lose the better Sense applications.

End result - either way, running Sense on its own is the best option.
