New Sub-Forum Idea

If it's there for people to see and discuss, I don't see the problem?

The OP should invite and lead discussion by offering his or her opinion on the content they have chosen to share with us.

Otherwise where do we go next, a constant stream of threads replicating the BBC News front page?

You might have more weight to your arguments if you picked a different thread. There is literally nothing intelligent to discuss other than to say 'wow, that was close', 'idiot', 'I'm shocked no one jumped down earlier', etc.

God forbid I post a news article about a really cool big bee, only for you to swan in and smite me for not starting an in depth discussion about the thermodynamics of bee wings :p

Sometimes fox, big bees are just really really cool.

He's initiated the discussion by posting the topic at hand. Without offering his opinion it becomes an open ended discussion. Is there anything wrong with that?

That's clearly not the case. The wonderful thing about OcUK is that it's a busy forum. If a thread isn't worthy. It sinks... and sinks. Poof. Just like that.

I don't get it. Every time people RSS a news story in GD somebody criticises them for it and the thread is locked. The first time I choose to criticise them for it and suddenly all of GD decides actually, they love RSS style posts and I'm nasty and should stop moaning.

The mind boggles.

It depends on the subject at hand. For instance that video, is pretty awesome. so it spiked a debate.

Someone posts something crap, and\or a 1 liner. then it gets closed.

But then there's the youtube/video thread? That one masquerades as an actual thread due to copy and pasting the source material from the news page. I might try it next time I stumble on a cool wikipedia article...

GD, general dumping ground, enter at your own risk. GD is fine as it is. It contains a wide range of topics from the very interesting to the silly. A sub-forum will dilute what is an interesting place. When it comes to threads you don’t like there is always the back button.

this,

i think GD is fine as is, dont need changing at all, it's more entertaining how it is :p

How about a ''spec me a'' sub forum. So when a retard wants someone to spec a toothbrush he can have he own special sub forum.

Oh while I'm here can anyone spec me some table salt.

Table Salt is a serious business and deserves a thread.....no an entire Forum of it's own.:p
