Anybody else bored of disappointing sales?

Over the last couple of weeks loads of companies have been having 'Black Friday' sales or 'Mega Monday' with supposedly thousands of items reduced to insane prices.

You dare to dream, and the proceeding few days you get yourself all excited thinking about how much money you're going to spend and how you are defiantly going to buy TV/Computer Game/Drill etc that you've been ambivalent about for a while but as it's going to have 40% off you're going to be having that.

The sale starts, you turn up, there's 10p of a toothbrush, and they're all sold out anyway.

Rinse repeat.

The only thing close to a bargain I've bought so far was Age of Empires II for 10p from GFWL but that's no bloody use as I refuse to install the GFWL client onto my computer. Even the steam sale was rubbish.

All very disappointing :(

Why would companies heavily discount items before Xmas?

They use the ideas of sales to get you through the door, even though 40% off may only apply to a fraction of items.

I've pretty much given up pining after sales. It's more effort than it's worth. I buy what I want when I want it, if I can afford it at the time. If it's on offer, great. If not, I still want it!

I thought the Steam sale was good, but then I have most of the games anyway :o

January sales should be good. Chin up.

Things like electrical goods don't really have much of a mark up, so companies simply can't afford to knock off more than a few % at best.

Besides the high street stores that may already have a huge markup on TVs etc

Once you've installed AoE3 through the client it runs standalone so you can then uninstall GFWL :)

I cashed in some of my Tesco vouchers by turning them into the rewards one's (which ended on the 5th).

Tesco limited each department and took out the best selling items (ipod's etc)and when I tried to purchase some toys, most of the best stuff was already out of stock and was never replenished.

One big con in my opinion.

Sale bargains are few and far between these days and we just don’t bother with sales.

This.

What I would call a sales bargain is when I see it and buy it because ZOMG it's cheap. Even though I don't need it I buy it anyway because it's ZOMG cheap.

These days all it seems to be is £6 off a £300 graphics card. Great. Maybe if I was buying a £300 graphics card it might sway me to buy that particular one, but it doesn't make me go out and buy it when I have no need and didn't intend to.
