I have a new POV GTX 480. Installed in an asus X38 board it was a pig to get going but after many bios resets and driver cleanouts it was installed with latest drivers for visita 64 bit.

card worked random lockups at first that improved quickly (themal compound setting?)

BUT benchmarks installed to test the card are very variable and usually pretty low for a e8400 and a quad 9550

2dmark06 is down at 11000 ish or max of 15000 with a quad 9550 at stock

heaven 2.1 benchmark runs at 25 frames per second or sometime 50 frames without me changing anything

GPU-z says the pci-e bandwidth is pci-e v1 not v2 and occaisonally the card reports its running at x16 or x8 or as low as x4 speed

Installed on a different P45 board much the same results though the card is more stable its performance is similarly lowish, goes up and down a lot and its still reporting anyhing from pci-e 2 x16 to pci-e 1.1 at x8.

It seems the pci-e connection speed may be a x38 chipset issue with nvidia drivers forcing pci-e v1 mode AND the speed of the pcie slot in the p45 board is propbaly not enought to half or double the benchmark performance but somethings odd, either the card is throttling itself or it does not have all the shaders working

Any similar expereinces or resolutions?

Is it possible to confirm all the shaders groups are enabled and working on these cards.

Attempts to check the 480 bios with nihibitor fail so i cant check the thermal or other details beyond its the current bios 21...2

Hi

psu is 1000w coolermaster and its the same results on another psu.

Card works just quite often it fails to ramp up performance (heat and fan barely move sometimes) and at best is very modest performance particualrly in old 'free' 3dmark06.

Have now tested on 2 intel boards P45 and X38 just a H55 left to try

Most of the time its the motherboard Bios are you using the very latest??

That list of problem motherboards is not accurate as well I have 2 boards on their list & mine both work fine but then again I always keep the Bios up to date before installing a new GPU!

Was thinking that, I know people with some of those boards that have no issues with their 400 series cards. While it may be something that a new BIOS fixes I'm wondering if its more down to things like people trying to run the cards on insufficent PSUs or the odd faulty card.

bot the x38 and p45 boards if have used have the last bios, they both report pci-e v 2 when used with amd cards, just varies between pci-e v1 and v2 and speed less than x 16 with this card.

Provided its pci-e v2 then going down to x8 speed should not be dramatic for most benchmarks

this is an annoyance and i need to confirm if its the card qhicg I can rma vs someting eles such as drivers
