if i go into an apple shop and buy a mac book with an extra 2gb of memory, do they have them premade up or can they do it while you wait or do you have to order it and come back?

thx.

few weeks ago i made a thread about getting a mac book from america, if i go in one day whats the chances of being able to get one that day?

Depends on the staff in and how busy they are.

I used to routinely do the memory upgrades when I worked there, as did some of the BoH staff. Normally quote 2-3hrs, but sometimes it would be done in well under 30mins.

Oh, and as for price... it used to be around £80 (RAM costs £160, but they "buy" back the RAM that's currently installed).

Just ask how long they think it will take. They'll soon find out for you.

well say they cant do it in time for my coming back from america, can i take the american mac into a shop here in the uk for the upgrade?

or will there be problems?

Honestly, there is 1 screw to open an iMac memory slot, and the laptops are equally easy. A child could do it!

The only time I'd say to get help (if you aren't PC savvy), would be for a Mac Mini upgrade.

Pick your machine, from this link and have a look at the guides, then thank me that I just saved you £80.

As per your other question: The machines have a worldwide warranty, IIRC, they just go off the serial number.

EDIT: From experience, don't throw or sell your original RAM.. If it goes belly up, it's always best to restore the machine to the factory state before calling Applecare, or they'll just say it's the user part you installed ;)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one! Still on the old model here.

Must have blanked it from my mind, trying to convince myself that what I have will suffice for my needs :D

I will not upgrade... I will not upgrade... I... will... not... upgrade.

Crucial's website has a compatibility checker. Pick your machine and it'll tell you the maximum RAM the machine supports, and which type to buy :)
