My New Pc for xmas - Ideas?

Hi, I am gonna get a new pc for xmas and I just wanted your opinion on it:

Amd Phenom II 1055t 2.8 ghz
XFX 850w PSU
Sony SATA Disk Drive
Samsung Spinpoint 1tb HDD
Asus Crosshair ii motherboard
Gskill ripjaw 4gb ram (or ocz gold of the ripjaw is still out of stock when I order)
Antec Lanboy Yellow Case

Ok, I understand some people hate the case, but its personal peferance :D

I decided on the PSU and Motherboard for Xfire as I was planning to buy another 6870 in the future

I really need to decide on my build as I will be ordering it any day now
I have been putting it off because of the weather :mad:
 
You haven't mentioned a GPU, but from '...another 6870...' I take it that's what you'll be including?

What's the main use of the system? ie. gaming, media editing, office use, etc?

I will have a look into the psu, I chose a high wattage as I diddn't know what I would need
I also thought a lot of the corsair memory was built for Intel systems, but I guess ram is ram so it doesn't really matter?
 
Is that the Crosshair 2 or 3? Obviously, I would suggest going for the 3, it currently costs £110.

The XFX PSU is nice, but with 6870 crossfire you don't need that much power, so you could go with a 650-750W if you wanted to save money.

As for the RAM, I would go for this stuff.

Also, if you want to do a bit of overclocking (the board and CPU are certainly up to it) then a CPU cooler like this would be a good idea.

You may also want to consider that Intel's new "Sandy Bridge" platform is about to be released just after Christmas. Here is a performance preview. However, it would obviously mean you would not be able to have the PC for christmas - but if it is a present you could get vouchers instead :)

Sorry, yes I was gonig for a XFX ATI/AMD 6870


I was'nt really planning to overclock but I may in the future, but for now I was gonig to use the standard AMD cooler

I also heard of theese new intel processors but I guess they would be expencive and I would like to stick with AMD on this one, I'm also on a limited budget
 
Thanks, i've changed the PSU to a XFX 750w and changed to the ram you suggested :)

Also, would the weather be a problem for delivery and would it come on the day it would say on the website?
 
I would say unless your area gets heavily hit with snow or something its normally prety dam accurate. Plus they keep you updated well or thats what i have found. Looks like a nice bit of kit with the said changes tbh. If your not overclocking at the mo the amd cooler will do. If you choose to oc tho the titan is a beast and used to cool my i7 really well.

Oh I have just checked, and I am confused with the RAM
As that corsair ram is 1600mhz but the motherboard says 1600 overclocked

what does that mean???

Means your RAM will run at 1333mhz(not much of a difference?) but you can OC it to 1600mhz. Even though the RAM says it runs at 1600, it will work fine at 1333.

i'm not sure but a 6870 could be rated between a 5850 and 5870 I think??

I just wanted to ask on the belkin 30m network cable's here:

I was going to buy 2 of these, as this pc is going in my bedroom and I wanted the other for my PS3, I just wanted to make sure this is the right cable for the job, as I will be running the cables outside of my house :D
 
Buy powerline adaptors and run the broadband over you home elctricity circuit?

Check them out for reviews etc first as I don't know this brand. But linked just to show you what I mean. I use a pair of solwise ones to let my xbox access my modem which is upstairs and they are fantastic!

Save shaving wires everywhere and they can be moved from room to room to suit easily.

That does look like a good idea, but I won't be really moving this computer around, same as the PS3, but would the cables work though? and they are the right type? I really need to make sure lol
 
They work just as well as ethernet, because they technically still are ethernet connections. Never failed for me at all :)
