hey guys,

as some of you properly know ocuk no longer has the mobo i was going to use for my build so ive decided to re-plan it :)

now i am buying the mobo from else-ware and i still cant find the GD80 for the same price anywhere so im going to go for the GD65 (unless i find a GD80 somewhere)

anyway away from that lol,

mobo - MSI P55 GD-65 (maybe GD80)
CPU - i5 760
RAM - corsair dominator (2x2GB) 1600mhz
psu - corsair hx850w
cpu cooler - corsair H50
HDD - samsung F3 1TB
GFX - gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB
case - lancool dragon-lord K62 window black

thats it, i already have a cd/dvd reader :)

im using a 22" monitor at 1600x1200 and shouldent be getting a new screen for quite some time as i dont need it tbh

so will this setup be a good build for gaming ??? i may go SLI if i decide to invest in another monitor but for the time being i think that should hold up pretty well :)

please reccommend any changes and let me know how this build could be improved (if it can) oh and my budget is £800 £820 MAX !!!

cheers guys :)

That is not bad at all~ How far do you intend to OC the i5 760? You probably won't need a H50 for it if you aren't going for the high stakes numbers (I myself got a Hyper 212 for £18 :) Does the job nicely to 3.5)
Also on a GTX 460 you aren't going to need 850w, you could probably go for 500-600w and have plenty of headroom left~

i was hoping to get to 4ghz on the cpu, i may go SLI on the 460's further down the line so i was hoping i could buy the 1 psu then not have to buy another :)

Well then to SLI 2xGTX 460 I'd say go for 600w, I'm told it can handle it.
Or at the most you would need a 700! If you're going for 4.0 though then yeah, you might need something like a H50~
Otherwise I am enraged that you managed to sort it out so quickly when my build is so similar and took me months to learn about :p

even if i overclock both ???

also i dont suspose you know what physx is from nvidia (is it worth having) ???

2 Overclocked 460's will easily run on a 700. And probably a 650 too!
(can run 2 GTX 470s on a 750)

And whie Physx has nice effects in Arkham Asylum, other than that, isn't worth anything really. Bt it comes with Nvidia cards, so its no worry.

ur build isn't bad mate, as you can see I have one similar; HX850/I5 750/H50/GTX460, I believe these components are very good for a mid range system, you might wanna consider an HX650 tho, no need for all this power tbh

well from what iv head the corsair psu's are really reliable and last for ever so i fort if i got a quite powerful psu it will last me some time for future upgrading (such as newer gfx cards/more HDD's etc..

also has anybody got or used the antec 1200 case ???

will the antec true power be albe to pump out all the power i need for the overclocking,

rite this is abit off topic but if i went to a 24" monitor in about 6months time will the SLI 460's still handle all the games at a good resolution ???

or is it worth getting the 1 gtx470 then buying another when investing in the monitor ???

That would be fine for OCd 760 and 2x 460. It probably wouldn't quite be enough for 2x the Nvidia beasts 470,480,580 etc. If you are thinking of going higher than the 460, the 6870 performs the same as 470 but uses loads less power and would be fine on the 650W PSU. I game on 24" with a single 5850 and max out most stuff no problem, even Crysis! So 1 460 now and SLI when you go 24" is tonnes of power.

ok buddy cheers i think im going to go with that then :)

one last thing, im thinking of getting a really good airflow case which has lots of room, is the antec 1200 a good choice ???

Regarding your earlier question, PSU calculators are helpful, but they are normally on websites of companies that want to sell you a PSU ;). I'm not saying they're inaccurate, but they will assume every component of your PC is running at max load, which aint gonna happen, and still add a big margin of headroom on top of that. Actual measured figures in reviews/benches put a 460 SLI rig at around 430W draw when gaming, and around 530W running Furmark (insane GPU toasting stress test), so in reality you'll be fine with a 650W even overclocked. I'm running a 625W Saphire Pure in my rig (see e-peen sig) and have no worries it will cope with a second 5850 when I can pick one up for £100 :).

As for the case, I'm sure the 1200 would be great for airflow, although I'd never spend that much on a case that looks like that when I could spend less on this (which still has millions of fan options and a built in controller to boot). Mmmmm. All a matter of personal preference though...

see i quite like the antec 1200 and the phantom looks too alinewareish lol
but anyway is it still a good case to keep those SLI 460's cool when overclocked ???

Alienware - eeewwwww.

That white Phantom looks like something out of Portal to me (great game) which is probably why I like it. Or a Stormtrooper :) It gets some great reviews - check some out on the hardware sites or youtube. Of course so does the 1200 and the 1200 is even bigger than the Phantom. I'm sure both are perfect for cooling. My heavily OCd rig is fine in my tiny budget case - OK only 1 GPU. SLI is gonna be fine in anything like the 1200.
