Johnnytoxic's Winter Weather Motoring Tip

Used de-icer yday and it froze in little blobs all over the screen so resorted to the old school scraper and was on my way.

Why on earth would you use warm water?!

watering can of cold water from the cold tap clears ice just fine tbh

get the wipers on quickly too to stop it turning to ice. job done

Well there are Escorts with heated screens afaik, so I doubt it is because of age, but rather because LX is base spec. Even on the MK2 Focus the LX didn't have a heated windscreen as standard.

Oh don't start Mike, LX is not base spec at all, CL was. If missed out because of age, ie LX a few months later had it but his did not.

I hit the demist button and watch in wonder as the car defrost in under 2 minutes.

One of the best things about the Mondeo is it's excellent aircon system.

Fail tip! My kettle only boils the water needed for one mug and then dispenses that water!

I just a teapot full of tap water, clears all my windows nicely. No cracking :p

Walk out of the house, press the button on my garage door opener, get in car, start car, drive off, press button to close garage door.

Job done.

Thanks for this. I'd been throwing blocks of ice from the freezer at my windscreen with only marginal success, but now I will try warm water instead.

Mate, you need to get an induction loop in your driveway so the door closes once you drive off- having to press the button twice is just uncivilised!

On a slightly seperate note, I'm surprised that there aren't more mentions of those remote start alarms that used to be popular with the max power brigade in the 90s.

I'm pretty sure the AC in Fords does not come on under 4c. Mine doesn't and my mates Focus ST doesn't.

I did that too :D

I am the spawn of satan if I dare to wash my car in anything below 5'C. Even if the 2 foot wide strip of water that runs from my drive to the drain did freeze it isn't going to cause any issues, even if you are walking you could step over it.

So now I take a 25L jerry can of water and buckets and sponge to my local jetwash where people can look at me like I'm the spawn of satan for taking too long using my sponge rather than scratching my paint up with the brush, even though in reality it takes me the same amount of time.

Oh and for the screen I take the start car, make my sandwiches, have some toast and scrape what is left when I'm ready to leave approach :p
