How Much Do You Pay For Your Broadband?

£12.26 a month for BE Unlimited with a 23mb sync. I also have their landline package, which is £10.50 a month and includes free evening & weekend calls.

I really like BE, and they are ramdomly sending me a free wireless N modem/router :)

£7.50 to Be for upto 8mb but in reality the best I can get is about 5mb. I knew this before signing up which is why i didn't bother with a more expensive upto 24mb deal as its not physically possible here.

Roll on fibre!

Be Unlimited has Static IP

Website says dynamic?

Also, my stats:

3161 kbps down
997 kbps up
atten down: 50.5 db
atten up: 29.4 db
margin down: 12.2 db
margin up: 12.4db

Lol, it's dropped down again, I need to reboot the router but its usually around 3800/3900.

Anything else you need?

I'm having a serious think about moving all my hosted stuff to somewhere else and just going with virgin, however I don't like their caps.

£23 'Office' 8mbit Entanet 15GB a month, 15GB doesn't sound like a lot, but that's only between 8am and 8pm, for most of those hours I'm at work, so it doesn't eat into my allowance hardly at all.

Weekends are also 'off peak' and don't count towards your usage :)

Can't remember exactly but it's something like £30/month for Virgin Media Broadband, TV and phone. The Broadband service being 20mb downsteam.

Never had a problem so far. Joined when it was NTL years back.

Yeah, on on Unlimited you have to request to be changed to Static IP via phone.

Looking a your stats, with a SNR of 6dB, you should see around 6-8Mbps connection.

It may be worth requesting to be moved to Unlimited. Are you connected to the master/test socket?

Yea I've had it connected to the test socket in the past for a few days and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

My Dgteam firmware is currently set to 90% SNR.

Not everyone can run an SNR of 6db.

Having an SNR of 12db looks like the DSLAM has decided to increase your target SNR to obtain stability or a lower error rate.

The downstream attenuation is far to high to attain 8meg, at work we have similar stats to you and sync at a similar speed.

I am caught in a contract with BT i want to move it to BE but i have not had the energy to phone bt helpdesk and cancel the contract. I still need to phone BT and demand a line test because i am getting 11mbit on a 24mbit* service and when i max out my connection it is clearly reaching a limit imposed by BT and not some line syncing issue. So BE said that you just have to phone up BT and ask for line fix then they will make it faster.

* up to, depending on how BT feels and what services they are looking to monopolize in your area.

and how far you are from the exchange and what material your line is made from. Aluminium line 4 miles to the exchange will get diddly regardless of your deal. Copper and living next to your exchange will get the maximum you are paying for most of the time.

I've just upgraded from upto 10MB (£20) to upto £50 (£35), before they removed any deals so it's only been £20 activation.

I've also always been lucky on the download speed and have always had +/-5% of the highest speed possible, so fingers crossed!

Don't use the DGTeam to set the SNR, leave that all standard. Go onto the Unlimited package and set the profile to standard via the members profile on their website.

That will reset your connection to a SNR Margin of 6dB. You will see a speed increase, and from there can determine if your line is stable or not.

I had similar stats when I was on Be*, It was stable at 8Mb, so it is possible.

Just because you're paying for a "Upto 24Mb" package, doesn't mean you will get those speeds...

You've probably reached the limit of your line at 11Mb, unless there's something seriously wrong with it... Which I doubt.
