Iphone or Andriod: Which first smartphone for Oxy?

Very true, which is why this debate will always end up with who needs what from a phone. It's subjective and personal and as a result, there is never really a right answer.

I'd still love to hear how people share their MP3s on an iPhone though? And transfer files over bluetooth? I just can't understand how people can live without these things :).

You can share mp3s over bluetooth with AnyRing, not tried it to see if it works though.

Oh I don't doubt that there are apps to get round many of the iPhone's perceived problems. I was entering the conversation about out-of-the-box performance.

I'm my limited experience (I have a Desire, best friend wanted an Iphone 4 and paid through the nose for it), it kind of comes down to if you're comfortable spending more money than something is realistically worth. That's not to criticise the new Iphone as I think it's great and looks aesthetically better than any other phone I've seen in my opinion.

However in terms of using a phone and what you get out of a smart-phone, I found it hard to not feel like my friend got slightly ripped off as my Desire does pretty much everything the Iphone can and more (at least what I use it for) and the fact I got my handset for free for £30/month, whilst he had to dish out a few hundred quid for the handset before settling into a £20/month contract, to me made a no-brainer.

Again though, if you want a stylish phone and money isn't a problem, the Iphone 4 is in my opinion the one to go for.

The phones worth (top android compared to iPhone) isn't that different. Networks give discount on the android ones, that's all.

I've used android on two phones, ZTE and Galaxy tab. You need time to understand android as it's very customisable. But, once you've spent the time doing it, you'll really come to love it, as I do.

It depends what you want to do with the phone, if you want something for a good camera and HD video recording the Iphone 4 pretty much is one of the top ones along with the Nokia N8( which is the best).

The desire hd has a good camera on, but the HD recording isn't brilliant, the Galaxy S has a crap camera but great HD video recording, the standard Desire isn't amazing at either, as I say it just depends what you want it for.

Some people buy phones based on those requirements other want good music experience which the Iphone is the best out its basically a Ipod touch.

I love the Omnia 7 I have the camera is ok but I am a little disappointed with the HD video recording it does 25fps but does it at a very low bit rate(around 7000kbs) which I think is down too the snapdragon cpu in, where as the I4 and galaxy S do around 12k.

If you getting the San Francisco then the camera/video isn't a requirement as its pretty poor at both.

OLED shortages still? Those new factories can't come soon enough...

How about the Motorola Defy? (£260 from the rain forest place)
It's 3.7" IPS LCD is better than standard AMOLED and LCDs screens. Plus the specs are just as good as anything else on sale. (The latest 45nm ARM A8 cpu, SGX530 gpu, 512mb, 2GB internal storage etc)

What about this new Google phone out soon?

Tbh, seriously thinking of ordering an iphone for £500 and whacking a £15 Tesco sim in it.

The new Google Nexus S is basically a Samsung Galaxy S, so nothing to get too exited about.

I'd seriously recommend trying the Defy at T-Mobile/cpwh before getting an iPhone. It has virtually the same specs for half the price, very impressive piece of kit... Stick your tesco sim in, install launcherpro from the market and enjoy.
Sounds like you want to impress people with your phone too? This one can be submerged in a pint of beer down the pub, try doing that with an iPhone ;)

Review here.

The interface seems sluggish on that review video. For £260 that would make me rage.

;) (You can root and remove all the Motorola bloat too)

edit: the guy was also running everything in the background too (all motoblurs crappy social update widgets etc)

Lucky you didn't the the Orange SF then :D

Really?! Bloody hell that's good money still!
People moan about initial cost but a few years later are still getting very good money back on them

yeh lol, is android seriously that laggy? My mates iphone was silky smooth...

Nope, it's smooth out the box. Just go to a shop and try one ;)

LauncherPro makes it even smoother, adds functionality and is better looking than the stock motorola version. You just download it on the market like you would any other app.

cba to respond to Morba, he/she has turned into a massive troll recently. :(

I'm going to go to the orange shop on Saturday and try the SF, iphone, Defty, HTC and some win7 phones.

I dunno what to do...

I think whatever I decide I'm going to go down buying the sim free phone then a £15 pm sim from o2/tesco/giffgaff

Works out the same or cheaper than a two year contract.
