I'm not quite sure how to dress for an up and coming interview/meeting. Its not strictly a job interview, but a meeting with KMK Recruitment (http://www.kmkrecruitment.co.uk/what_we_do.html) to discuss a job position which they are advertising.

This is my first proper post graduation interview so not sure how these things work.

So suit and tie, or smart casual?

I'm thinking suit and tie might be a little overboard for meeting what is essentially a recruitment agency.

They may not hold the same opinion. It will not hurt to make a little extra effort, but it could if you don't.

Go suited and booted.

They say that if you imagine your interviewer(s) naked it can help improve your interview. Using the same logic I would suggest to go to the interview undressed and you are sure to succeed!

If I imagined my interviewers naked, I'd just end up randomly peeking at their crotch. So probably not good in my case.

Reebok classics if you can, worth the extra cash and some poppers lime green will probably defo get you the job and maybe a t-shirt with one of those "cool" slogans like "save a virgin s*** me".

A suit of course, what else? :D

Wear a suit. Smart casual is interview suicide.

Totally agree. The amount of people these days that don't wear a tie to an interview - no excuses.

It is also good to take a notepad and pen to jot down things they say, and have a list of questions already down that you want to ask or matters you want to raise. That ALWAYS impresses interviewers as it shows you were prepared and made the extra effort.

Don’t forget to tie them together.
What, the shoes, pants and socks? He'll look a right freak!

What if the company has no internal dress code and their website says that a suit isn't really necessary for interview? Would it still be "inappropriate" not to wear one?

We had one guy rock up in a brown leather jacket, t-shirt, jeans and some white trainers. He also turned up late and didn't apologise. Didn't go well.

Suit for an interview with no exceptions and in my industry if you get called back to come in to sit in with the people who will train you for an hour (so that you get an idea of the job and so that they can see if you'll fit and have any possible hope of doing the job) then smart casual. Polo shirt, jeans and shoes or something like sketchers would be acceptable. No trainers though.

Fortunately in my job we actually just sit in jeans t shirts and trainers all day. But then we already have the job!

I don't think its a question of inappropriate, its not inappropriate to turn up to an interview in a t-shirt and jeans. Just remember that anyone who looks like they put in an effort to look smart automatically gets ranked above people who don't. That may change once the interview goes on but if i have one person in a suit and one person in a tee and jeans and both are good candidates, the chances are the one in the suit is more likely to get it. Fortunately it doesn't work like that as no two candidates are equal but i always work on that basis if going for an interview.

You may be great at the job, but if someone else is equally great but they didn't have a tattoo on their face then fair or not, they will more likely get the job.
