My Boss is looking at an X5 and has asked out of these two which is best:

BMW X5 30D M Sport (3.0 Diesel)
09/09 Plate
16000 Miles
Carbon Black with Beige Nevada Leather
20” MV Spoke Alloys
Panoramic Glass Sunroof
Folding and Exterior Mirrors
Heated Front Seats
High Beam Assist
Xenon Headlights
Adaptive Headlights
USB Interface
Loudspeaker System – BMW Business
Sun Protection Glass (Tinted Rear Glass)
Media Package (Nav, Bluetooth, CD Changer)
£39999 (Circa £54000 When New)

BMW X5 35D M Sport (3.0 Diesel Twin Turbo)
08/58 Plate
27000 Miles
Carbon Black with Black Nevada Leather
20” MV Spoke Alloys
Reversing Assist Camera
Panoramic Glass Sunroof
Heated Front Seats
High Beam Assist
Xenon Headlights
Sun Protection Glass
Media Package
£39989 (Circa £56000 When New)

Obviously the older one has the Twin Turbo engine but is older and has more mileage, the cars are ~6months different in age, are there any LCI changes or revisions in that time?

Thanks

Rob

There was a major iDrive update towards the end of 08/early 09. I cannot remember exactly when the X5 got it - the E90 got it in October 2008, the E60 got it in March 2009, so somewhere between the two. This means its possible the 08 car is running on the older version of iDrive. The new version has a completely redesigned menu structure, built in hard drive for music, etc etc.

USB interface is hugely useful as well. I'd be tempted by the newer car. It's better spec, newer and only misses out on the more powerful engine but then it's a tank not a sports car.

The first one sounds much better.

Black/Beige is a much nicer colour combination and if it has the new iDrive system its a no brainer. The 'old' one is now looking and feeling ancient, mine has so many pauses its unreal.

I dont think theres too much difference in performance in those 2 models, a family member has the 3.0 Diesel and it has never felt too slow for the class of car.

Black and Black can look very boring, the beige would look better.
I'd go for the newer car out of the 2.

The 30D is widely regarded as the pick of the bunch engine wise and as it's in the newer car with fewer miles with a better interior option then I'd go with that personally.

I was leaning more towards the newer one as well, mainly for the interior and exterior colour combination. I'll pass on mine and your recomendations, be sad to see his C63 AMG go :(

Remember the beige interior means the door cards and dash / console are all beige as well. This can feel less sporty than a black interior. Personal preference though.

Both cars have the 3.0 litre diesel engine, with the 35d having a twin turbo. The power difference is quite significant (Ive had both, though one was an E53 and the other an E70).

Good point made above about the newer idrive. That is a huge upgrade, and you wouldn't know it looking at the spec.

Everything from the window line up, including the dash top and the top of the door cards, is black - the headlining as well on a Sport model. It looks great - its far better than all black. I've got all black, and I wish I had beige.

See here.

Gilly.

That thread (which I hadn't noticed the existance of, sorry) is clear as mud, especially as I wasn't around in November to witness whatever drama caused it. Also the infraction you gave me just says "other profile rule".

This isn't an argument or a whine about receiving it, but any chance of a little clarification here? My comment was intended as a joke rather than a troll, since the thread has come to a clear conclusion already.

As previously discussed the black on black looks far better than the mish mash of colours that the beige gives. :p

But has the OPs boss looked at either car or driven them as asking which is best with 0 criteria is a bit pointless

Or as wrong as that when the Titanic look out said "I see no iceberg" :p

A mate had beige seats in his Audi and it looked like you were sitting on David Dickinson. Obviously not all "beige" seats are that shade, most are the same shade as sick. It's a hateful colour that shows every scuff and dirty mark. There is no redeming feature about beige interiors. The only thing I can think of that is worse than beige is cream.
