My warranty on my 320d is nearing and I am considering their extended warranty - anyone have any experience and which level cover offers the best value for money?

Probably worth it, yes, but this will be the only year it is. Basically once you hit 60k the coverage on the BMW warranty becomes much less comprehensive and the price gets considerably more expensive.

You should be able to get it for circa £500 for the top cover with zero excess and BMW Emergency Service.

Anything less than the top cover and dont bother, as you'll get a better deal with a third party warranty provider.

I wish BMW extended warranty was that cheap over here, it's $3500 to extend another 3 years up to 100k miles and we still pay a deductible of $50.

I was quoted over £700 for the extended warranty by BMW for my car with £100 excess, recovery was another £150. I went with warranty direct in the end for £480 per year with only £50 excess. I did pay for the BMW recovery although next year I won't as my bank supply top RAC cover in their package.

Bizarrely the E60 is quite expensive and I cannot for the life of me understand why. I quoted a 520d and a 335i - both same age and mileage. The 520d came out at DOUBLE the 335i quote

I took the full cover on mine, costs a small fortune compared to third party companies but who cares it's the peace of mind that counts.

correct me if im wrong but warranty direct have ceiling limits on payouts.

I think it's the value of the car (decided when the policy is taken out) in either one claim, or up to the limit in multiple claims.

The claim limit on WD's better policies is the value of the car.

That's what mine is. The only thing I didn't add was expendables such as brake disc/pads etc. Never had to claim though so don't know how good the service is though.

I think my car ran something like £880 for the best coverage they offer with no excess. Thus far no work i have had done has had any mention of not being covered, so i assume the coverage is good.

The 60k thing i have heard before, at next renewal my car will be over 60k, who would people suggest i go with?

WD but I consider them the least worst rather than the best, if that makes sense.

Will let you know how it goes - I got a policy for the 525i which is as we speak with BMW, who've no idea whats wrong with it. Oh the joy.

been offered £349.00 for the year comprehensive with £100 excess and without emergency services (i have breakdown cover with my bank account). Warranty direct comes in at around the same price except you have to take out breakdown cover so it comes in at £418. I'm unsure if this includes an excess though as it isn't mentioned?

You want zero excess, you dont want to be paying £100 each time it goes in.

You dont need to buy breakdown cover with WD either - you can use any or no breakdown cover with them.

I have a question regarding the BMW extended warranty, they don't cover wear and tear do they..

So whats stopping them from saying something like, if your car has done 80k for instance , we won't cover the water pump, hose etc etc etc due to it being a 'wear and tear' item and it's natural wear due to the mileage of the car?

Surely this BMW warranty is fairly flawed ?

What if your BMW with say 45000 on it breaks and you know the bill is gonna sting.. Whats to stop you just taking out cover, waiting a few weeks and pretending it just happened?

Do warranty companies have something in place to avoid this? Could make big bills disappear in theory.
