As title really, I know its not necessarily the best idea but I really fancy a couple of pints as all my workmates are out.

I will be getting blood tested (cell count etc) so Im giving the blood at 9am tomorrow.

Does drinking alcohol affect this in any way?

I wont drink it its going to be a bad idea.

Yes I can, but I fancy a couple of pints with the lads, I find it more sociable. You might find that odd but I dont enjoy sitting with a pint of coke the same way I do with a beer.

If they haven't told you otherwise it should be fine. Just make sure you mention it to them when you go tomorrow.

Worst case scenario : they ask you to come back another day, and you learn your lesson.

On average, alcohol will be removed from your system at a rate of around one unit per hour (roughly half a pint of beer's worth of alcohol per hour).

So, as long as you just have two or three pints there shouldn't be any significant effect by the morning.

*insert usual OcUK 'can't believe you can't have a good time without alcohol, antisocial behaviour etc.' comment*

Shouldnt be a problem, I wouldnt recommend drinking tomorrow night though unless you want to be a dribbling mess by your third pint

I give blood samples regularly, and I'm often very hungover when I do it. All it means is that it'll be harder for them to get it as your blood is thicker.

Feel free.

I thought alcohol thinned the blood?

It does at the time but it dehydrates you. So, come the next morning you are very dehydrated. To the point that I can be up a couple hours before and have a few pints of water but my blood will still be very thick.
If I turned up to the hospital at 3am, then I imagine they could get it out easily. Not so easily at 11am the next morning.

Yes its a blood sample Ill be giving, I imagine this is just 1 or 2 Vials of the stuff.

Im not gonna go kick the arse out of the pub, Im gonna just go socialise with everyone and enjoy a few

Since alcohol is effectively poison, and will cause various stress responses in terms of biochemistry, then by all means have a drink or two, but I wouldn't have anything approaching a "serious session".

1. Plasma volume reduced, will make it harder to find a vein and may require multiple goes at stabbing you!

2. As long as your not a chronic drinker its not going to effect you too much*

*a few pints that is....anyway judging by the time guessing you've already made up your mind! Hope you had a good night!:D
