ITV wants to demonise gaming...again.

Hate it when media does this.

Not exactly the same but like Greg James and Scott mills said everyone on a computer forum they were talking about were raging fat basement dwellers who have no friends.

I'll send off an email as well :)

I think you guys are wasting your time taking this seriously.
Gaming is still an entertainment medium in its infancy, and from what I've heard most forms of entertainment born over the last 100 or so years have had the same initial negative reception from the general public. Take film and TV as an example.
Games are getting more and more popular now. The games industry already grosses more than the film industry and it won't be long before they're equal in terms of popularity and attitudes continue to shift toward the positive. The gaming industry isn't going away and is unlikely to be restricted any further with big businesses like EA making their millions off violent franchises like CoD.
Don't worry about it and just watch it for the comedy value. I, for one, can't wait for the hordes of angry mothers calling in about how their little angel turns into a monster after two hours on GTAIV.

are these sort of TV shows always scheduled shortly after the release of COD games, im sure it was titmarsh who did one shortly after MW2

i have no problem with them showing these sort of shows as long as they have a valid and balanced argument, i.e. giving true gamers a reason to defend themselves

since the email address has been removed i think if this is aired, and if it is as it seems as just another way to demonise gamers then i think somthing should be done to set the records straight.

alternativly we could always find these 'violent' gamers before the show and arm them to the teeth for their tv debut. :)

as long as the school massacre topic doesnt come up again as this is always linked with videogame violence since the Vigina Tech massacre yet its never noticed that these sort of things (and many of them worse) happened well before video games were mainstreem and many before they were even invented.

Lets face it there are some disturbed people in this world and it doesnt matter what they do to the media its who/what was at fault.

The only time i ever get angry at a computer/games are when the router ***ks up, but then no ones happy that they have to spend half an hour rebooting, reconfiguring and reseting all settings across, 2 Xbox's, 3 iPod's, 2 Phones and 2 Laptops are they.

All other times its the spongy ******* on the other end who keeps killing me :P

Sending e-mail = incentive to put it on, I'd just let it ride. Charlie Brooker already did some nice gaming segments.

...

Kind Regards,
Darren Thomas
(A non violent madman)

So, you're the quiet pacifist type of madman? :p

And thinking about it, when was the most violent period in human history? Was it around the GTA IV launch?

I'm sure this subject will get the same intelligent and incisive coverage they give to their other important topics for debate, like last night's happenings on I'm a Celebrity or Corrie. Or what type of handbag will wow everyone at the office Christmas party.

just watched the panorama program about gaming addiction....

wasn't too over balanced tbh...

I watched that and had a similar view. There was no ridiculous scare mongering. I think it was more to raise awareness that certain vulnerable people who play games can have there whole life adversley affected and there should be help available to them.

thats the way it came over to me as well.

They made a very good point that the game mechanics that get people hooked is the same mechanics that get people hooked on gambling slot machines.

Same principle, the item is itself not addictive, but it does bring out addictive tendencies in some people. The games industry spokesman said that people who got addicted to games would be likely to be addicted to other things too. Knowing alcoholics and gamblers, i entirely concur. Take one away, and they just get addicted to something else. I knew an alcoholic who went clean. Never touched a drop. But had instead replaced the addiction to drink to an addiction to pain killers and cough syrup.

I think e-mailing about this is just wasting your time, they will run with the show regardless because that's why they are asking for people to come forward.

At the end of the day, it's a morning chat show that is going to be watched by a fraction of the population. The only people who are going to be watching are probably those who should be stopping their kids from playing 18 rated games anyways.

Yet more sensationalist rubbish with a pre-determined viewpoint. ITV obviously didn't think that BBC did a poor enough job on Monday.

I'd argue that daytime TV is more of a threat to your sanity than video games.

I am going to call them in the morning, ask if they planning on bringing on the incompetent parents who let their 12 year old kid play any 18 rated game their child wants.

Of course, they dare not attack their most valued viewer.

Lets not forget Alan Titmarsh did a similar piece on this chat show with that idiot - Julie Peasgood who 'forgot' to mention she was in a violent video game after saying they were the root of all evil (slight exaggeration :p)

She does know that we (Humans) are the creators of these video games.... Right..
