Hey,

Have been wanting to upgrade my graphics card for a while now (from 9800 GT 1GB) but like so many other have been waiting till everything settles down with the 69** series and to see what it does to prices.

Have just come across a 480 for £235 inc Vat and was thinking to take a chance and buy 2 of these and hope for the best.

My current system is
Processor: i7 920 @ 4Ghz
Motherboard: EX58 UD5
Ram: 6GB Patriot 1600
Power Supply: 850W corsair hx
Graphics: 9800 gt 1Gb
Case: Cosmos S

I currently have my CPU watercooled using a SR1 360 which I would add gpu's too.

What do you think, I am sure watercooled SLI 480 for £470 is a good idea.

Before this I was thinking of a single 580 or 6970

Cheers

Throw in the price of 2 water blocks and your costs have risen to over £600 for 480 SLI. You'd prob need another radiator to cool that lot so factor that into your outlay as well.

Why take the chance? They'll be plenty more 'bargains' to be had once the 6xxx have launched.

Be quick they are running low...............great price and would be a no brainer @ £234 each......but i hear that OCUK might have some great offers on the gtx 480 in the next couple of days!

Good point by Mike! £600+ is a lot!

Personally i wouldnt bother watercooling them just one along with a zalman VF3000F.
Should do you nicely until something a lot better comes along.

May as well buy 2x Radeon 6850's for £272 inc. if you have to buy this instant. Otherwise do the sensible thing and wait till next Wednesday.

Two GTX 480s for £475 is cracking value...

That said, since you're watercooling you will need to buy waterblocks, more tubing, more clamps, perhaps even a new rad. Considering this, the price rises to a fair bit more than £475, and the percentage increase going up to a pair of GTX580s (or a pair of 6970s if they turn out to be great performers) is no so big.

Hard to say, but in pure performance terms a GTX480 for £235 is a really great buy.

Cheers guys, Some good advice there.

I guess its unlikely that anything is going to go up in price at all but you know what its like when you see a good deal and think its a great idea at the time.

Good point about water cooling adding to price, its something I would probably go about doing but I guess if I got something other than a 400 series there wouldn't be quite so urgent and i could live with it.

Think I will resist and wait a few weeks

(Speedy Pete where about's in south wales are you, haven't seen too many from this side of the border)

Thanks guys

Hiya mate, is this from an online retailer?

yea, can't say where but look around won't take long to find (its a Inno3D 480gtx). I have brought stuff from them before but haven't had a great time to be honest, much rather buy it from here. I will be using it for some gaming at 1920x1200 but mostly for 3d modeling/rendering

Give me 2-3 days and should be done, the competitor selling them so cheap is loosing £100 per card, thats suicide.

Were looking to fund the deal in a way so we can offer such a price but on a superior brand without actually loosing money. :)

Quite far away from you in a town called Monmouth, near Newport. Lived in Swansea for a year tho which I think is quite close to you.

Looking forward to what ocuk has on offer. Does anyone know when ocuk will stock the 5** series waterblocks on a side note, now I started Watercooling it's hard to stop thinking about it
