2000 year old tree hacked down

Just saw this on the local news. Why would someone do something like this!

The tree had been there for 2000 years and was quite a big pilgrimage site for some of the folk of Glastonbury and visitors. From the pictures on the news it looked like someone had taken a chainsaw to it and cut it straight off at the trunk

They need to get Special Branch to investigate this thoroughly, they'll soon root out the culprits.
