Just watching a film with the Mrs, hit pause to go out for a smoke and noticed the neighbour's son's car alarm beeping away. It's not going off full whack, but the battery must be low or something so its giving off a warning beep.

Problem is, my neighbour is away and I presume his son is on holiday as he's left his car there whilst he's away too. It's kind of irritating, more so as our bedroom is at the front of the house as is our other neighbour who has been round since I started typing this.

Any ideas what I can do to stop the beeping, short of a) killing it with fire b) nuking from orbit c) covering in mustard d) punching it on the ovaries e) smashing it's err baked goods f) quick! run to the Internet?

Smash one of its windows and call the police, saying it was minorities. When the police turn up offer them tea and pretend to be concerned about the local children.

All will be fine.

The Mrs has given this idea two thumbs up, sending her outside with a brick now. :D

Check to see if it's taxed, tested and insured, if not get it towed away.

If not, jack it up and put a wheel dolly under each wheel and push it down the street, remove said dollies and have a good nights sleep.

The beauty is when he gets back from holiday he will wonder how the fudge it got down the road.

When I was living at my parents years ago I use to own a car that would give off the odd beep in the evenings. I don't know exactly what it was but it did tend to happen on nights when it was quite windy.

I'm probably wrong here when I say this, but is there a chance it could be due to strong wind blowing against the car giving intermittent beeps?

It's still going. I'm considering popping the bonnet, and attaching a battery charger to bring the volts up so the alarm stops chirping.

Anyone know how to pop a bonnet on a mk1 Scooby from the outside? (without causing damage, mustard withstanding of course) :)

If the alarm is intelligent enough to know when the battery is discharging, giving it a boost or disconnecting the battery will most likely make it go into tamper mode.

I'd leave it alone. If you were messing about with my car, I'd be less than impressed.

Hmm, hadn't considered that. Didn't think the tamper mechanism would work the other way.

I don't like the idea of messing with another man's car, but its 12.34 and it's still going off with the threat of getting worse when the battery gets to a critical level. We have work tomorrow, and it's not even the neighbour's car (like it makes a difference at this point) so our collective patience is starting to wear a little thin.

Even Pete's minority bashing ideas are starting to make sense. :D

You can open the door of earlier Scoobys just by looking at it funny. They're legendary for being easy to gain unlawful entry to. However, if the alarm is even halfway decent you'll have problems.

Do you know any ******? They'll be able to pop the bonnet and kill the alarm brain before you know what's happened ;)
