Hello, all new here although I have been a keen browser for some years now, I decided to join up as I'm looking for some advise.

I have been challenged to spec up and possibly build the "ultimate" gaming machine. Some friends, people I work with and I have had numerous heated discussions as to what should be included and we have come up with something along the lines of;

2x Intel Xeon X5660 2.8GHz Socket 1366 12MB Cache Processor
EVGA Classified SR-2 DDR3 Motherboard
48GB (12x 4GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 2000MHz RAM
2x Corsair Professional Series Gold AX 1200W Modular PSU
4x EVGA GTX480 1536MB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card - 4-way SLI
2x OCZ Colossus LT 250GB 3.5" SATAII Solid State Drive - in RAID
2x Samsung Spinpoint F3 2TB Hard Drive SATAII 5400rpm 32MB Cache - in RAID
Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series Soundcard

Apart from completely bonkers, how does this sound to you? Can you think of anything we can improve on, or add to it?

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated!

P.S if we get the go ahead to build it I'll be sure to upload plenty of pictures and videos :D

Thanks :D

580 has replaced the 480 as the top nvidia card. Also at least 40Gb of that RAM will sit there doing nothing unless you are doing some mega 3D rendering.

I hope it would, as i have no problems with it on my setup.

not sure if srs.

OP is never going to build that machine, just seeing if he has the best specs possible on his list :p

i would go for enermax 1250w

and how exactly do you plan to keep this one cool? and in what type of casing?

Thank you for all the replies guys.

We are actually serious about this and we're hoping to get the go ahead within the next couple of weeks. So hopefully, watch this space!

As for the case, we have been looking at using something along the lines of a CoolMaster ATCS 840. Unless someone can recommend a better dual PSU case?

To make sure temperatures stay manageable we are looking at building our own liquid cooling system - what would you recommend?

Thanks again for all the advise guys :D

This isnt going to be the ultimate rig but still very fast.... and isnt amd or intel releaseing new cpus soon? and isnt new graphics cards coming out in the next 1-2 months.
I would say wait abit and see what the new tech is then build the best!

Surely you don't need 2 PSUs to power such a beast? One Corsair 1200w is enough :p

You need to add some phrase cooling too for some extreme overclocks, then the rig will be closer to "ultimate" :p. But seeing as you're going for water cooling, how about one loop for the GPUs, then another for the motherboard, CPU and maybe the RAM?

Wait... how much is this going to cost? What sort of bugdet do you guys have

How about this case? :http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-196-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=187

Yup, i'm serious. It may not hit 60fps, but at least i can play it on very high.
