well i've her indoors chrimbo pressies bought, and lo and behold i've still got about 130 notes left in the budget. now seeing as she's gonna be quite happy with her presents i thought it only fair that i spend the rest on myself

so any advice? was thinking probably an SSD, but not sure which to go for, it'd only really need to hold OS and Steam games.

but open to any other suggestions :D

nice price for 120gb SSD. but just had a look on the corsair forums and there do seem to be quite a few people reporting issues with this particular model.

you any experience of the above SSD stulid?

Definitely an ssd mate, my next purchase as well, btw do you play bfbc2 Kwango, seen someone called quango on the sas beer server the last few nights, as a lot of ocuk users frequent that server, i thought it might be you with a slight user name change.?

zero, I have a 64GB crucial C300, but for steam games you need bigger.

what kinda size you think i should be looking at for an SSD and steam games. i suppose if push came to shove i could just leave steam on my main HDD

you can always spend the money on me as it's xmas :)

i would fella, but i'm pretty sure i wouldn't get the same enjoyment spending it on you rather than myself, plus i don't think you'd offer the same chrimbo treats that the gf will be forth coming with when he see's her pressies :p

yes buddy that was me, meant to say hello but you dropped out after the restart. had to change the name as EA reckoned that theKwango contained swear words, go figure??!!??

well I find 64GB to be fine, holds my OS and 5 to 6 big install games, with enough room left over to still downlaod some stuff and not get any complaints that I am running out of disk space from the pc.

will do mate, beer drinkers is probably one of the best uk servers, although their admins can be a bit random with their applications of their rules :p

back on topic :p

my steam library only consists of a few games really and i dont intend making it much bigger, not really a fan of Steam TBH. but i suppose it's a necessary evil for certain games.

steam install contains, COD MW2, L4D2, Star Wars:EWG and KotOR and believe it or not Deus EX, which I think is one of the best games ever BTW. if i added OS these Steam games and BFBC2 what kinda headroom would i be looking at with the C300 64GB?

I have done a fresh install today of win7.

the C300 has 41GB left after all the windows updates(everything from patches/updates to .NET framework), motherboard/graphic card and sound drivers, anti virus/firewall, codecs, Internet explorer 9/opera

I keep all my games on a defragged 7200RPM 1.5TB drive, the performance is absolutely fine when the only thing accessing said drive is the game you are using. I would struggle with a 64GB SSD. Sure the OS is only so much, but once you add in some big ticket apps like Visual Studio and Creative Suite and factor in the user profiles it gets full fast. Desktops and Document folders etc are on a seperate drive, but there's some big files in %Userdata% that are difficult to move, stuff like my Outlook.PST
