From Xfi xtreme audio to XONAR DG?

Seen Xonar DG's for circa £25 and wondered if anyone more in the know could inform me if it'd be a worthwhile change or very much a sidestep?

I'm kind of aware that the X-fi xtreme audio is a "fake xfi" and recently aquired some razer mako's and have already had senny 595's for years and feel my soundcard situation perhaps needs to be improved

Any advice welcome! I like the pricetag of the DG's if these would help a lot but i could higher than substantially if it'd be worth it.

Normal usage = pc games at a normal volume through speakers (rather than loud), and music generally through headphones.

If you had cheap rubbish speakers and headphones, I'd say probably not, but as you have quality headphones, I'd say it's definitely worth getting a DG.

Another member here, went from an X-Fi Xtreme Music, to the Xonar DG, and he was rather impressed with it, I seem to remember. He has HD555's.

I have a modded x-fi xtreme music and I have no idea if the xonar dg would be better!

Are the drivers better than creative's? I hate creative's drivers they are so bloated and confusing. Have to run the drivers in audio creation mode otherwise the sound quality is literally AWFUL.

Not sure if marsman is referring to me but I did exactly that for the front panel convenience. Check the massive thread...had some teething troubles but very pleased and would go back and make the same decision again. Ridiculous value for money.

I run a XFi Extreme Music via speakers on my No.2 rig and I have just, in the past 10 days, put a DG in my No1 rig.
I mostly run the DG with headsets, Roccat Kave's, but I did plug the speakers into the DG just to see if I could tell the difference.

Answer.... OOOOOOOOOOOOhhhh yes!!!

in terms of drivers I think asus's onces are better...I had nothing but issues when I had a x fi gamer fati1atly ( is that the right spelling?)

I agree to an extent but the FP switching is flakey for me, and also the GX mode causes crashes for me in Fallout New Vegas. In FO3 with the X-Fi I had no sound-related problems, but that's just one game so hardly a conslusion either way.
