Due an oil change - any flush?

Hi all,

Going to be doing an oil change soon. I normally just let it drain for about an hour but was wondering if anyone would recommend using some sort of flush or cleaner? There seems to be a lot on the market,

It's a 1.5dci kangoo.

I asked an old boy about this a couple of years ago and he recommended Diesel (Yep, the same stuff that comes out of the pump) and a bit of diff oil to give it a bit of weight/body. Stick it in, run it up at idle for a short while watching gauges like an absolute hawk and then drain it back out (rinse and repeat if you please).

I've done it a couple of times at a part of the initial big service I give to cars I've just bought, nothing has broken as a result and the oil has remained nice and clear throughout it's lifetime (Circa 2.5k miles) in the engine, so I'm happy.

Try it at your own risk though!

What's to say the diesel doesn't hang around and causes the new oil to break down?

2.5k is nothing in terms of mileage at all.

Watch what gauges?

It's largely pointless and depending which engine you've got can do more harm than good.

Oil Pressure was what I concentrate most on :).

I know, I know, by the time it reads flat zero the damage has almost certainly already been done, but I live in hope.

The real issue is it flushing something out which blocks the oil rail or the sump pickup etc, worse still it could burn up against the turbo bearing and turn into tiny oil pellets which will 100% help block the pickup.

I'd be much more inclined to do a flush in a simple NA engine, wouldn't bother in a turbo motor.

the only "flush" ive done is include auto gearbox fluid in with new oil. seems to work a treat.

in fact ill be getting the cam cover off the golf in a few weeks, ill get you some pics to see

I'd never flush an engine, I've seen two people kill engines with engine flush and even if you wish to attribute those to misuse, you're probably doing more harm than good with it, anyway.

I wouldnt reccomend an engine flush, it can cause more damage that it cures, just get the engine nice and warm before draining but be careful not to burn yourself.

You could always run some cheaper oil through the engine first before putting the good stuff in.

Personally, I wouldn't use engine flush.

If you feel the engine needs a 'flush', I'd say you're better off lobbing some mineral oil in, run the engine for a hundred miles or so, then dropping it out for some good oil.

What he said ^

I sometimes get somebody like Krap Fit to do an Oil Change a month or so before a service - my 328i's spanner monkey could not work out why the oil was so clean at service times! - I find it the most effective way of flushing, safely.

My dad is a mechanic and uses Forte Motor flush, I have used to too.

Just stick it in the engine and let it fast idle for 15 mins or so, then pull the sump plug while its still warm so the oil is thinner and drains nicely out, leave it till the last drops are coming out add new filter and oil, job done.

He has never had any problems and has being doing it for years.
