Just out of interest, if I was looking at the above cars for requiring an estate, which would be the better option? Or are there better alternatives. Engine wise I was thinking the 3.0D of each model, S-Line and M Sport respectively. My friend just bought a 2.0D S-Line Avant, which I really like and was thinking of what alternatives there are, the BMW being the first one I could think of.

E91 would be the touring (e92 = coupe, e93 = convertible).

I'd have the E91 for the more involving drive, every time.

Go try both.
Personally I really really don't like Audi's. Every time I get in one, it comes across as exactly what it is, i.e. humdrum VW parts bin with a slick interior. For me, whilst the interiors on BMWs might not look quite as Guchi like, I much prefer their engineering solutions.

Neither us the a4 really, but its often more about the shape of the load area than the size.

The a6 is a really nice car and i hear the f10 is passable as an OK car too, but depends on your budget

I already said Im not buying one, just out of interest, but for arguments sake I want an estate to lug various things about over weekends such as mountain biking gear, photography equipment, etc. So the A4 has a bigger boot than a 3 series. Maybe an E60 estate would be a better choice than an E91?

But sadly it's brand new still so will cost considerably more than the other two :p (Although he hasn't stated a price fair enough)

I'd go for an A6 but if it was between those two I'd get the E91.
