In my opinion this guy is too late with this - optical technology just like the xbox kinect is the way to do this.

i Agree - but i was speaking conceptually.

i.e,. his involvement in this movement is not really required as the technology has been developed and persued by large corporations.

I think it will help. It will stop people releasing patents similar to Apple.

For example I can imagine someone patenting that gesture to take a photo, the microphone idea of detecting contact on paper etc.

so like the the windows table? Where dishes are put down on it in restuarants and it'll list info about the dish?....

Its different. The beginning of the video has stuff he bases his idea off. He's not promoting the intelligent worktop idea.

That will teach me to finish watching videos before i comment on them. indeed - if he provides the open source code that would be amazing.

Looks good, but I get the feeling that all his demonstrations are heavily "staged" so it looks like it's working really well.

Certainly is very interesting tech. I see this in daily use in the not too distant future as well. A real Minority report kind of lifestyle.
