LOLFacebook! Anyone bored already?

We know you are just trying to have a discussion, it's 'general discussion' and we are having a discussion... :p

I'm not usually one to whinge about how people use a public forum, but I'm getting really bored of people trashing threads where people are asking completely reasonable questions about Facebook with replies like 'lolfacebook', 'reinstall it' and 'Facebook sucks'.

Is it time to send these replies to room 101 to join Peadobear and thanksfortheinfo.jpg?

You've been on these boards for 7 years - surely you know that's just the way the OCUK forums roll? I've gone through spells of not even visiting this place for months due to some of the mind-bending lameness. However, for LOLs this place can't be beat - I always end up coming back. Just have to learn to ignore certain people.

Yeah but some people like to take offence where none is meant and imagine general statements are aimed at them, I thought I'd get better responses if I stayed as neutral as possible.
I'm going to watch the Khan fight anyway now so carry on without me :)

It's a great fight. Enjoy :)

What makes me laugh is that people who **** Facebook off still come and post on here which is basically a Facebook for geeks.
Basically if you post on here you have no superior right to **** other social sites off.

Very good point there :)

Just because people use one social site does not mean they can't be critical of or mock other social websites

Yes totally, as long as people are clearly told when the mods have decided something has gone on too long or now constitutes spam then fine. On wider matters of what could be taken as offensive or construed to be derogatory then I still think it's an incredibly fine line. Take the 'two ***** don't make a right' poster I mentioned earlier, it was removed, yes some people might have found it offensive but an equal number of people might have found it humorous. Considering we have had threads on here discussing the N word, and numerous other hot potatoes, I find it hard to discern the criteria under which the mods operate. But then it's under your individual discretion anyway, which means it's really what the mods find funny or offensive and not the community, unless the mods take action solely if a post is reported and flagged by a single member as offensive. We just don't know.
Like I say I'm just discussing this because I find it interesting, not because I have a problem with the way the forums run, or even believe there is a problem.

It does come down to moderator discretion in a lot of cases and that's rather obviously somewhat subjective. As I said earlier though the idea is not to be totally prescriptive about what is and is not allowed so a long list of things that are not allowed and an even longer list of what is allowed is not the aim.

However when a post is RTM'd or reported by an Underboss then the moderators will look at it and make a decision, sometimes unilaterally and other times after discussion amongst themselves. It depends on the situation in question, sometimes it's relatively clear-cut and other times it will be borderline but that's the way it has to be unless we do go for a completely rules based approach rather than the broadly spirit based approach that is currently used.

It's funny how things have progressed though, when I first joined the forum I'm not sure that any thread questioning moderating decisions would have been allowed to remain for long, let alone discussed in a fairly rational fashion. It does display a certain amount of respect for the members and how it is approached that it is now at such a stage.

Pancake came from the pic of hamster with a pancake on it's head, didn't it?
Which was not started by a mod :p

It's a bunny in the original picture but close enough. :)

Very good point there and I agree, to be honest threads like these are good for the community in my experience, even when no moderator action is taken on anything discussed it allowed every to feel as if they have had a chance to have their say about things.
I like the way the modding is done right now more than any period in the past I can remember. This is still my most visited forum :)

If an entire thread can be trashed by a word then it wasn't a good thread anyway.

I disagree with you there, the problem here is you have so many users that if one person trashes a thread with "lolfacebook", or other such nonesense, then you undoubtly get another load of bandwagon jumper-ons, who also think it's funny, posting the same leaving a thread wasted for multiple "lolfacbook"....

Por Favor - get rid of it...

noty everyone has facebook or even likes, but it's peoples opinion to use or not use it. the "lolfacebook" crowd should find there own bandwagon and possibly gorw up a little bit;)

Facebook is horrific, and quite laughable at times.

So, I think the word is quite reasonable to be honest.

The one that really gets to me is pasty. It drives me insane.
