Britain's Fastest Speeders

so how come f1 drivers dont get away with speeding? they are more than "advanced drivers"

They do get away with it.
Damon Hill was recounted in a story where a cop went up to the side of the car, peered in the window and shouted back to his collegue, 'You won't believe it, it is bloody him!' then told him off and let him go.

That was 2003, maybe things are different now.
Back in the 70s Cops didn't care if you'd been drinking or not, they just told you to be careful.

Found this on the MSN News.

This particular bloke was a copper, got took to court for speeding in his unmarked vectra doing 159mph. He was cleared of any charges because he was "an advanced driver" and was "familiarizing himself with the car".

But who needs to go 159mph to get to grips with a new car, im only 17 but, wouldn't you just go on an abandoned airfield with permission or go to Germany and use the autobahn's?

I mean my dad got done for speeding when he was in his taxi, he was doing just over 80 in a 60 and a copper, on the same road 2 weeks later, went and done 100+ with no lights or sirens. The cop was let off, and my dad wasn't.

Does this mean cops are given different privileges for driving, like how can this be justified? There should be set limits, no matter if your an advanced driver or not.

What do you think?

YOUR SIG IS WRONG 1137 isnt 1337 (leet) soz m8 caps

Supposedly, Stirling Moss was once stopped for speeding, and the copper uttered the immortal copper's line "who do you think you are.... Stirling Moss?"

I think someone is confusing a Eighties advert with reality. Can't remember what the advert was for though.

LOL, caught himself speeding. Familiarizing himself with the car was utter BS, else he would not have been in court. Definitely got away with murder there, anyone else recount a case of a civilian managing that from a similar speed?

Edit:

Aricle fails for having to get to page 9/23 before finding someone caught faster than I've driven on private land, and page 15/23 before we get faster than my daily driver's published top speed. The last 5 would have made a better article.

The police look after their own.

The justice system also looks after their own ..

I read a whole essay about it once -- it's something to do with if they convict one of their own (that works in what they subconsciously perceive as 'their industry') they know they are damaging their own industry, which by proxy means they are also effectively damaging themselves/their own position in society, which the human brain is wired up not to do - so they don't want to do it.

Then the same essay went on about a real life example in which 2 houses were on fire and had been for the same length of time, one with full family inside kids et all, one FURTHER AWAY with not-on-duty single fireman inside. And the fire engine of course trundled virtually straight past burning house #1 and on further away to save their single mate 'Fred'. Was an interesting read actually ..

(ps, I did 150mph on me motorbike and 135 in my peugeot on the same stretch of the M3. I'm not being big headed when I say it didn't feel either difficult or dangerous.)

Speeding is speeding, unfortunately it's pretty much unrelated to causing accidents. You'd think that, given the government's own research shows this, they'd prefer to make roads safer rather than raise revenue...

Hmmm that's pretty debatable, I haven't seen any conclusive data that suggests that the faster you go the probability of an accident is not effected, simple logic and laws of physics suggest to me that there is obviously an increase in probability!

What isn't debatable and has stacks of data/stats backing it up is the FACT that the severity of injuries at an accident is ABSOLUTELY effected by speed, ie the faster the cars are traveling the more severe the injuries. Ergo speeding is dangerous.
